UPMC is Hiring a Central Sterile Processing, Supervisor Near Monroeville, PA

UPMC East Hospital in Monroeville is searching for a Supervisor to oversee our Central Sterile Processing Unit! This full-time, salaried position will work primarily evening hours from 3pm-11pm, Monday-Friday. Preference given to candidates who have flexibility to potentially work other shifts as needed to assist with staff coverage. UPMC East is considered a community hospital, but one of the faster growing facilities. In Central Sterile, we have a team of many enthusiastic employees who are eager to get their certification and advance in the department. If you have at least 3 years in sterile processing and 2 years of leadership experience, we invite to you join our incredible team! 

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus: $5,000 paid in a one-lump sum within your first 90 days when you make a 2-year work agreement!

The Central Sterile Processing Supervisor coordinates the daily operations of the department functions and assures instrument and equipment processing including; cleaning and decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution to the patient care givers. They employees and serves the customer as a resource to service problems and/or questions.
Responsibilities:

  • Practices solid verbal and written communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in unit practices Documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues. Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in daily work. Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healing relationships with colleagues. Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement tools and techniques. Continuously improves the quality of care and the work environment of outcomes and the integration of research and best practices into daily work. Shares learning from improvements with other units and/or spreads across the business unit or system.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles.
  • Plan for and complete growth oriented and developmental activities.
  • Coordinate educational opportunities, both internal and external, to facilitate staff acquisition of knowledge and credits necessary to maintain any employee certifications.
  • Demonstrates interest in the development of others and positively impacts the lives of patients/families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing. Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team within and beyond the clinical unit/department.

  • Collaborate with the manager ensuring quality of care of the Central Sterile Processing by implementing, communicating, and/or developing philosophies of standards of care; enforcing adherence to organization, departmental or outside, regulatory body requirements.
  • Serve as a role model of excellent customer service by responding constructively to the needs of all those interacted with on a daily basis.
  • Support the departmental goals of quality service, system improvement, and cost containment by contributing to the successful implementation of recommended departmental changes.
  • Ensure a fully qualified and competent workgroup by coaching, scheduling, motivating, and assisting in the development of the employees in Central Sterile Processing.
  • Participate in preparation of staff annual evaluation documents.
  • Sterilize and process equipment/instruments by adhering to departmental standards, professional regulations, and policies and procedures.
