Position Description
The Resource Planning Department is responsible for developing the Company’s long-term plans for power generation. This includes the transition from a fossil fuel-based electric generating system to a renewable-based energy future, as described in the Company’s recent Integrated Resource Plan. The student intern should have an interest in learning about renewable energy issues and contributing to the Company's long-term transition plans. The intern will be expected to 1) conduct and summarize research into various topics and 2) learn how to apply commercial simulation software and spreadsheets for the purpose of modeling the Company's generation and transmission system and its associated costs. These analyses will help the Company identify and characterize renewable integration issues, support resource procurement decisions, and estimate the costs, impacts, and opportunities associated with retiring large fossil-based power plants.
The intern should be seeking a degree in engineering, applied math or science, economics, business administration, or sustainable development and must possess analytical skills and expand upon those skills as part of the internship. The intern will contribute to the expansion and enhancement of the Department's modeling and reporting capabilities, which are being increasingly challenged by the complexities of integrating high levels of renewable energy onto the Company's system.
This internship runs year-long, with part-time hours during the school year and full-time hours during the break. This is a hybrid position, with on-site work required.
