Certified Medical Assistant- UNLV School of Medicine

The certified medical assistant is a versatile position that is able to support both front and back office processes, and/or clinical processes, based on the needs of the practice and flow of the day. This position will support The UNLV School of Medicines Las Vegas clinics. This position participates in the delivery of excellent medical services.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to adhere to confidentiality policies.
  • Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures.
  • Working knowledge of medical database computer programs and basic Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, professional journals, business periodicals, and/or government regulations.
  • Ability to use electronic communications and internet resources.
  • Ability to operate common office and medical equipment• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical concepts and interpret measurements.
  • Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction.
  • Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed
  • Skills to operate a computer to effectively work in the electronic medical record.
  • Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of general office practices in a medical setting
  • Skill in operating computer and Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical concepts and interpret measurements.
  • Respect and protect confidential data
  • Relate to employees, patients, and the public to develop and maintain effective patient and work relationships
  • Must be able to accept and function in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9-CM coding
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
  • Skill in identifying and communicating problems to the supervisor
  • Skill in following medical quality assurance and quality control standards
  • Good telephone manners and etiquette
  • Skill in documenting and maintaining patient care records
