Job Summary

Develop chiral metamaterials, conduct atomic-scale characterizations of hierarchical self-assemblies and employ X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy for structure solution. Additionally, the role involves the development of optical instrumentation with chiral discrimination, experience with Focused Ion Beam milling for AFM tip preparation, mentoring students in colloidal chemistry, TEM, and SEM techniques, writing research articles and reports, actively securing new funding as an independent researcher and presenting research updates in international conferences.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Crafting scholarly research articles and comprehensive reports to ensure sustained funding
  • Formulating innovative research proposals as an independent researcher aimed at securing new funding and steering the lab in novel directions
  • Innovating optical instrumentation spanning UV-Vis to NIR wavelengths with a focus on chiral discrimination
  • Pioneering the development of chiral metamaterials through expertise in colloidal chemistry
  • Conducting precise atomic-scale characterizations of hierarchical self-assemblies
  • Nurturing and guiding undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in the realms of colloidal chemistry, TEM, and SEM techniques
  • Showcasing research advancements by presenting updates at international conferences and meetings
  • Utilizing X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy to solve complex structures
  • Demonstrating proficiency in Focused Ion Beam milling for the preparation of AFM tips

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD in Materials Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field • Proven expertise in developing chiral metamaterials using colloidal chemistry • Demonstrated experience in atomic-scale characterization of hierarchical self-assemblies • Proficiency in structure solution through X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy • Track record of developing optical instrumentation in the UV-Vis to NIR region with chiral discrimination • Hands-on experience with Focused Ion Beam milling for AFM tip preparation • Prior mentoring of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in colloidal chemistry, TEM, and SEM techniques • Certification or training in relevant laboratory safety protocols

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral experience in Materials Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Previous publication of research articles and reports for maintaining continued funding
  • Success in securing research funding by developing innovative research proposals and establishing new directions within the lab
  • History of presenting research updates at international conferences and meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of colloidal chemistry and its applications in materials science
  • Proficiency in atomic-scale characterization techniques
  • Expertise in X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy for structural analysis

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000/year.
