The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is home to 15,000 students; 1,300 faculty and staff; and over 180,000 alumni. The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) is searching for an Assistant Dean for Inclusive Excellence to support LAS by leading the strategy supporting LAS's commitment to inclusive excellence. In partnership with the LAS Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence and the Inclusive Excellence Office team, the Assistant Dean will develop and implement evidence-based inclusive and equitable initiatives to enhance recruitment, retention, and success of a diverse body of students, faculty, and staff in LAS units.

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the development and coordination of innovative programs aimed at enhancing faculty's leadership development, mentoring, and career success. This includes collaborating with existing initiatives across the University and leveraging partnerships with relevant programs.

Foster a positive and inclusive culture by strategically providing new and senior faculty members with the necessary resources to excel as leaders, managers, and mentors.

Manage the day-to-day operations and programmatic aspects of the LAS Office of Inclusive Excellence, including managing the office budget and mentoring office staff.

In partnership with the Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence, develop and implement a comprehensive strategy that embodies diversity, equity, and inclusion principles within LAS and beyond.

Provide guidance and support to LAS units in their efforts to attract, retain, and nurture diverse faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students.

Advocate for a strong commitment to diversity and assist units in creating and presenting development opportunities to potential foundation and corporate partners.

Utilize data collection and analysis to identify challenges, enhance transparency, establish accountability measures, propose effective solutions, and define metrics for evaluating progress within the college's units and other assigned areas.

Cultivate both internal (within LAS) and external partnerships across the university, collaborating with other Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) officers to align the goals of LAS Inclusive Excellence with those of the broader campus community.

Serve as a member of various College level committees as needed, contributing insights and expertise to shape strategic decision-making.

Ombudsperson to serve as a neutral third party that directs students, faculty, and staff to the appropriate LAS and Campus offices.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably in a relevant field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty and students.
  • Five years of experience with diversity programming, recruitment and/or retention, experience in leadership skills development/training, and experience in program assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., preferably in a relevant field of study that enhances the individual’s ability to assist Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty and students.
    Experience successfully mentoring and training others.
  • Excellent ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, with a wide range of on-campus and off-campus constituencies
  • Excellent intercultural skills and a commitment to inclusivity
  • Demonstrated strength in communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize seminar series, retreats, and other functions
  • Familiarity with diversity resources at a university such as Diversity Offices, Counseling Centers, OSCR, or equivalent offices.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Must be diplomatic and possess strong integrity.
  • Familiarity with current national research and initiatives in the areas of diversity and multicultural issues.


Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
