University Texas Southwestern Medical Center is Hiring a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Physician - Sickle Cell Near Dallas, TX

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, seeks an outstanding Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist to join the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

The selected applicant will enjoy the exciting opportunity to lead one of the largest comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Programs in the nation, while providing clinical care to pediatric patients with sickle cell disease and other classical hematological disorders. We seek candidates who commit to scientific excellence and have the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead a dynamic and diverse team shaping the future of hematology and Sickle Cell Research. The ideal candidate will grow our program to national and international excellence while bridging basic science and clinical/translational research. The successful candidate will be a respected and accomplished researcher with vision, creativity, and the ability to build and lead teams. A record of high-quality scholarship and funding from institutional, foundation, industry, or government agencies and a willingness to work collaboratively to expand and strengthen current collaborations with investigators from other divisions and departments at UTSW will be needed. A career trajectory indicative of emerging leadership in the field and a history of mentorship of trainees to support growth in research and scholarship will be reviewed favorably. This recruitment is part of an ambitious strategic plan to substantially grow our team of world-class pediatric hematology/oncology investigators over the next five years. The successful applicant will join a division of 29 faculty with national reputations as clinicians and physician-scientists.

Specific to this position, our Sickle Cell Program:

- is one of the largest comprehensive Sickle Cell Programs in the country, providing multidisciplinary outpatient, emergency, and inpatient care services to 1,000 active patients at two locations in the metroplex.
- Includes dedicated multidisciplinary clinics with stroke neurologists and transfusion medicine specialists.
- is the lead site for the North Texas Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trial Unit.
- supports clinical investigators and clinical trials through the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Research Office, which provides regulatory and trials management services with dedicated Hematology Coordinators
- is leading the charge on curative therapies for Sickle Cell Disease in close partnership with our Cellular and Immunotherapies Program (CITP)
- is home to "The Dallas Newborn Cohort" an internationally valued database that contains detailed patient-level information on sickle cell genotype, clinical characteristics, treatment, and clinical care utilization, and provides an outstanding resource for administrative, quality improvement, and research.

Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Texas and be board eligible or certified in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology. Academic rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time status. Beyond the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the successful candidate will enjoy the exceptionally rich biomedical research enterprise at UT Southwestern Medical Center, including the brand-new School of Public Health, the Clinical Bioinformatics Center, the Biomedical Engineering Program, the NCI-designated Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development, the Green Center for Systems Biology, and the Children's Medical Center Research Institute. Clinical facilities include the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Health, Dallas, which is adjacent to UT Southwestern Medical Center, as well as Children's Health Plano and UT Southwestern Medical Center Frisco.
