SUBJECT: UNIVERSITY PARK CAMPUS SCHOOL VACANCIES 2024-2025TEACHER: MATH/COMPUTER SCIENCE - (MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL) REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL Elements of InnovationUniversity Park Campus School as an Innovation School will promote college, career, and civic readiness for all students. Teachers at UPCS must be dedicated to instruction that encourages high levels of student engagement in a non-tracked academic curriculum. Further, teachers must be committed to open-practice, working with fellow teachers and our partners from Clark to ensure the most powerful instructional practices for all.Staff openings at the school will be filled with eligible candidates from inside and outside of the system and will be vetted through a series of panels and interviews conducted by key stakeholders of the school’s community. The following description and process will be followed: UPCS has identified the following core characteristics:•Highly qualified teacher status as described by the DESE.•High level of understanding of content and how to make it accessible to a wide range of students. •Demonstrated understanding of practices that promote literacy development and how they relate to content-area learning.•Demonstrated understanding of the signature practices of teaching and learning at UPCS (collaborative group work, questioning, literacy groups, writing-to-learn, scaffolding, classroom talk) and to personalizing learning in the context of a vibrant learning community.•Demonstrated understanding of student-centered learning.•Demonstrated commitment to sharing, reflecting on and developing teaching practice with colleagues in collaborative learning processes such as Rounds.•Demonstrated commitment to collaborative decision-making with colleagues.•Demonstrated belief that every student can learn and qualify for post-secondary education.Teacher Hiring ProcessProspective teacher candidates will participate in activities designed to help them demonstrate qualifications consistent with the characteristics noted above and which involve key members of the UPCS community. Each candidate will:1. A faculty panel will review the paper submissions of the entire pool of applicants to identify no more than ten of the most qualified candidates (screening panel).2. Sit before a panel of students, parents and teachers and answer questions that secure knowledge of the candidate’s educational philosophy to analyze if that candidate’s teaching philosophy fits with the essential mission of the school (interview panel).3. Teach a practice lesson to a group of students with faculty and administrators and partner faculty from the Hiatt Center for Urban Education observing, with a post-observation discussion designed to elicit the candidate’s observations and reflections and provide feedback on the value of the lesson. Be assessed by a faculty panel whose members will recommend their preferred candidate to the principal (demonstration lesson panel). 4. Interview with the principal. The principal will either accept the recommendation or veto it. If the principal vetoes the candidate, the faculty panel will reconvene to recommend another.The WPS Framework of High Quality Teaching and Learning document will be used as a reference tool in the hiring process.
