Position Summary:

The College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Agronomy. Responsibilities:

Engagement in teaching and advising undergraduate students as well as leadership in our agronomy program. Teaching responsibilities include beginning and advanced agronomy courses, such as Seed and Grain Crops, Forage Crops, Weed Science, Precision Agriculture, Crop Production and Agroecology, not to exceed 12 credit hours per semester. Opportunities for guaranteed funding for summer salary to pursue research and/or outreach activities exist through the Dairy Innovation Hub (). Additional responsibilities include participation in professional and scholarly activities, mentoring student organizations including the collegiate crops team and agronomy club, and working with state organizations, producers, and agronomic professionals.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Master's degree in Agronomy, Agroecology, Weed Science, Crop Science with a minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching, research, industry experience, and/or extension-related services in Agronomy or Agroecology OR Ph.D. in Agronomy, Agroecology, Weed Science, Crop Science with a minimum of 1 year of experience in teaching, research, industry experience, and/or extension-related services in Agronomy or Agroecology.
  • A valid U.S. driver's license is required
  • Candidates should have a broad background in agronomy of field and forage crops of the North-central U.S.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and research, enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in a variety of settings, and the ability to develop and deliver effective presentations and experiential learning activities are required.
  • A positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work with others.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education and teaching excellence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Department Information:

The School of Agriculture (SOA) is part of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture. The SOA has over 550 undergraduate students, and 30 faculty and staff. A 430-acre farm is available for teaching, demonstration, and systems-based research. The SOA offers seven majors, such as agricultural education, agribusiness, animal science, dairy science, ecological restoration and resource management, environmental horticulture, and soil and crop science.

In the School of Agriculture, we value "learning by doing", engaging students in hands-on projects, undergraduate research projects, and through employment at the campus farm, laboratories, greenhouse and within our student-run businesses. Our soil and crop science graduates enjoy nearly 100% job placement. Our programs offer outstanding leadership and experiential learning opportunities such as service learning, undergraduate student research, faculty-led international study experiences, and internships within agricultural industry and government. We have 25 student organizations and competitive judging teams that will help enrich a student's college experience.
