University of Wisconsin–Madison is Hiring a FoodWIse Nutrition Educator - Grant, Green, Iowa & Lafayette Counties Near Dodgeville, WI

Job Summary:

The FoodWIse Nutrition Educator position will be located in Iowa County and will primarily serve Iowa, Grant, Green and Lafayette Counties and surrounding communities. This role is housed in the Health & Well-Being Institute (https://extension.wisc.edu/health/) within UW-Madison's Division of Extension (https://extension.wisc.edu/). The Health & Well-Being Institute works to catalyze positive change in Wisconsin residents through evidence-based and community-engaged health promotion programs to improve health, build community capacity to identify and address health inequities, engage in collective action, and achieve greater health equity.
The FoodWIse program (https://healthyliving.extension.wisc.edu/programs/foodwise/) advances healthy eating habits, active lifestyles, and healthy community environments for families with limited incomes through nutrition education at the individual, community, and systems levels. FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) grants.
The Nutrition Educator is a member of the Grant, Green, Iowa & Lafayette Counties FoodWIse team. Nutrition Educators are peer educators who co-learn with community members and adapt teaching to honor cultures and experiences. Responsibilities:

Instructs and/or assists individuals and families engaged in various outreach programs. Delivers research-based educational programs to support and empower people where they live and work. Provides general support on public issues for the benefit of the community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.
  • 60% Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
  • 15% Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
  • 5% Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
  • 10% Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement
  • 5% Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
  • 5% Communicates plans, activities, and achievements to relevant stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required:
-Ability to teach interactive lessons to youth and/or adults in group settings
-Work, volunteer or life experience with people or groups with limited income
-Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments
-Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity
-Demonstrated commitment to Extensions' values of equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities
-Must be able to carry educational equipment, up to 25 lbs
-Ability to participate in low impact physical activity exercises, dependent on local program delivery
Preferred:
-Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education.
-Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work
-Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations
-Spanish speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Hispanic/LatinX culture (Language skills will be evaluated.)

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $44,102 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Starting salary will be prorated based on FTE (hours worked per week).
Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. This position has a bilingual preferred qualification. Upon the successful completion of a Language Proficiency Assessment, a 'bilingual' prefix will be added to the official title. The bilingual prefix is accompanied by a $3500.00 pay increase applied to the annual salary. This will be prorated based on FTE.

-The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Grant, Green, Iowa & Lafayette Counties FoodWIse Nutrition Coordinator for supervision, compensation and benefits, and performance reviews.
-This position's primary programming focus is Grant, Green, Iowa and Lafayette Counties; however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area. The primary office location is negotiable within the four counties served or the four-county service area.

-This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served.
