The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (PBSCI) within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 300 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.
The Trauma Recovery and Resilience Innovations and UW Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress will be hiring aone year duration full time research study coordinatorresponsible for assisting in the administration of randomized control trials of brief cognitive-behavioral interventions for PTSD and substance use problems after a traumatic event, focusing specifically on sexual assault. We are currently seeking a research coordinator for one year only. Renewal of the position beyond one year is possible depending on qualifications, performance, and project needs.
Position Description:
We will be hiring a 100% FTE research study coordinator responsible for assisting in NIH-sponsored trials. The main purpose of this position is to assist with funded randomized clinical trials, including direct interaction with participants with trauma-related psychopathology, assisting in the implementation of study procedures, and assisting with research data management. Start date is expected to be in June 2023.
Renewal of the position beyond 1 year is possible depending on qualifications, performance, and project needs. This position is an outstanding opportunity for individuals interested in gaining more research experience before applying to graduate programs in clinical or counseling psychology, other areas of psychology, social work, or other advanced graduate training in mental health.

Responsibilities:

• Work as a part of an active and collegial investigative team, demonstrating clear, collegial, and professional communication.
• Serve as a point of contact for participants, helping to explain the study, obtain necessary materials, conduct initial eligibility screens, and provide administrative assistance for appointments.
• Facilitate online and onsite data collection including self-report, interview, and behavioral data collected using online experimental task paradigms.
• Assist in modifying data collection materials forms using Qualtrics or other online collection platforms.
• Assist in design and implementation of recruitment materials using varied modalities (e.g., print ads, social media ads, community organization outreach).
• Gather, record, enter, organize, transcribe, and verify the accuracy of research study data; prepare data for computer input; analyze computer printouts; and set up research database files utilizing knowledge of IBM SPSS Statistics.
• Assist key personnel to complete reports to various regulatory agencies.
• Assist in performing mathematical calculations and statistical analysis using social science data collection and analysis software.
• Survey and summarize relevant literature using psychological and medical literature databases, integrating clinical psychological trial data.
• Assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication using current American Psychological Association style requirements.
• Manage inventory, order supplies, print advertising and study materials, and maintain up-to-date budget documentation with oversight.
• Recruit and oversee undergraduate and volunteer research assistants working on the projects.
• Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience;
Desired Requirements:
Excellent clinical interpersonal and communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Experience utilizing SPSS, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
Experience with online survey and data collection packages, including Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Red Cap or equivalent
Experience implementing and conducting psychology research, including working directly with research participants
Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
Preference for candidates will also be given to those who have both clinical and research experience with individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder, substance use, depression, or anxiety disorders and who have previous experience working with survivors of sexual assault. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Prior experience conducting independent psychological research, including study design, implementation, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and manuscript publication, as evidenced by such things as an undergraduate honor's thesis in clinical psychology. Previous authorship on research presentations (papers or posters) or publication experience at national or international psychological conferences or psychological journals. Excellent grades in undergraduate coursework in psychology.
