Position Purpose:
The Graduate School is the leading advocate for equity and justice in graduate education at the University of Washington.We are seeking a full-time Equity and Justice Program Manager to work within the Office of Equity and Justice to administer the program, coordinate events, facilitate workshops, and build partnerships across the tri-campus community.This position directly supports the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) mission of the Graduate School and University by advancing the success of underrepresented graduate students.
Working closely with the Associate Dean of Equity and Justice, this position will build DEIJ partnerships; implement programs and events that provide cutting-edge DEIJ research and tangible skills for campus faculty, staff, and graduate students; facilitate workshops and trainings, and strengthen collaborations across campus programs to support responsiveness to the needs of diverse and underrepresented students. The Equity and Justice Program Manager will also provide administrative support to the Associate Dean in the pursuit of OEJ goals.
This position requires strong DEIJ knowledge, program and event development experience, facilitation skills, and experience building and sustaining collaborations.
This position’s efforts are divided approximately between 50% administrative functions and 50% on the development of DEIJ programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
40% DEIJ Program Development and Workshop Facilitation
• Serve as the DEIJ subject matter expert; maintain awareness of DEI best practices and industry standards.
• Manage the planning, development and implementation of new programs and initiatives that are responsive to the needs of diverse and underrepresented graduate students.
• Support leaders to help drive group initiatives; engage as a thought-partner with faculty and staff about workshop and event programming to greater equity for underrepresented graduate students; assist with planning and program budgeting.
• Facilitate DEIJ programming
20% Event Coordination
• Coordinate events and workshops, including marketing and event logistics.
15% Program Management
• Work closely with the Associate Dean and other internal stakeholders to develop plans for executing DEIJ vision, strategy, goals, and priorities; manage project timelines and ensure deliverables are met.
• Manages the work of 2 graduate student workers
• Respond to inquiries about program offerings, events, and requests for consulting or collaboration.
• Develop processes and procedures for OEJ.
• Manage the DEIJ web pages of Graduate School, creating engaging and useful content to promote diversity and inclusion.
• Monitors and reconciles OEJ budget, initiates purchases.
15% Campus Partner Engagement
• Develop and sustain relationships across campuses and with external partners to identify needs and effectively share resources with regard to DEIJ.
• Schedule meetings and facilitate communication with leadership, faculty, diversity committees, members of the Graduate Student Equity and Excellence (GSEE) Faculty and Staff Advisory Board, graduate students, and community stakeholders, safeguarding and maintaining pertinent documentation.
• Provide DEIJ training, education, and support to Graduate School staff– including but not limited to staff members in GSEE, Graduate Student Affairs, HR, the Public Lectures, Computing and Information Resource Management (CAIR), and GEMS (Graduate Enrollment Management System).
10% Complaint Resolution
• Address confidential matters pertaining to graduate students' academic issues and grievances initiated by the students or departments
• Facilitate meetings and represent the Associate Dean when Associate Dean is not able to attend.
Lead Responsibilities:
Assigns, directs, and reviews work of graduate student workers in the Office of Equity and Justice including the OEJ’s graduate student research assistant and social media intern.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of three years of DEI, HR, or program management experience with a full or partial focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Strong program and project management skills; ability to operationalize programs
• Strong facilitation experience
• Experience leading programs from ideation to execution and evaluation
• Must demonstrate experience and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Must be highly organized, detail-focused, able to work independently, and possess an ability to maintain and safeguard confidential communication and documentation.
• Must have computer technology experience and ability to create and revise website content.
• Proficiency in MS Suite.
Desired Experience:
Event management experience.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work option available (3 days in person, 2 days WFH) with designated office in Loew Hall on the Seattle campus.
