UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Building Services delivers Custodial Services to the UW campus that provides exceptionally clean and sanitary environments for students, faculty, staff, and visitors and manages the comprehensive Recycling & Solid Waste Management program.
Building Services Custodial Services Division has an outstanding opportunity for aCustodian Supervisor Ito serve as a first-line Supervisor in the Custodial Department. Reporting to the Custodial Manager of Operations, the Custodian Supervisor is responsible for supervising, with designated authority, custodian personnel within a designated work area consisting of 20 buildings.
The Custodian Supervisor 1 assists in directing the day-to-day activities, including: training all assigned staff; ensuring safe work practices are adhered to; assigning work; preparing daily cleaning schedules; monitoring productivity of personnel; evaluating work assignment and completion of project work; securing buildings, including unlocking and locking buildings; and responding to employee concerns. With designated authority, the Custodian Supervisor 1 interviews and recommends selection of applicants, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations; recommends corrective action; and works directly with clients on cleaning issues.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure staffing needs of assigned buildings; analyze workloads and assign work to employees.
• Assign building keys to custodial staff and maintain key security.
• Maintain compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
• Inspect buildings to determine cleaning needs and job assignments.
• Prepare reports related to the Custodial Division, such as building inventories and custodial procedures.
• Oversee performance of special cleaning projects.
• Carry cell phone to maintain workplace communication.
• Ensure that power cleaning equipment is maintained in proper working order.
• Identify, report, and take corrective action to resolve custodial problems; report and act upon building security, maintenance, and potential safety hazards.
• Evaluate, order, and maintain stock of custodial supplies; recommend the need for equipment.
• Conduct safety meetings and train subordinates; enforce safety rules and regulations; investigate accidents and incidents and fill out accident/incident reports.
• Meet with building clients to ensure cleaning expectations are met.
• Conduct regular training of all staff on all cleaning procedures, including chemical and equipment use.
• Submit a daily shift report on all pertinent activities occurring during the shift.
• Maintain a positive attitude and set a good example for custodial staff, while supporting the common goals and objectives of the supervisory/management team.
• Perform related duties as required.

Requirements include:
• One year of experience as a Custodian Lead OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements include:
• Proven strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to build and maintain a strong team and customer service-oriented organization.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including those required to create reports, conduct meetings, and train personnel as well as the ability to work well with others.
• Experience inspecting buildings to determine cleaning needs and analyzing workloads.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills.
• Willingness to learn and use software.
• Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Experience supervising custodial staff in a large institution.
