UW Primary Care is a network of 16-Community-based clinics throughout the Puget Sound region. Our clinics offer a wide spectrum of primary care services, as well as secondary care, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Urgent care services are offered seven days a week at select locations. UW Primary Carehas outstanding opportunities for CLINICAL LAB TECHNICIANS-2 in several of our Primary Care and Urgent Care clinics! Our Lab Technician’s work in a clinical laboratory with a limited test menu and high service demands; performing waived and limited non-waived testing, excluding microscopic evaluations, and adult and pediatric phlebotomy.
OUR CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
The Clinical Lab Technician will work at one of OUR (16) Primary Care Clinics. Our openings and staffing needs change continually. Urgent Care Locations often require one regularly scheduled weekend shift per week.
If you meet our minimum requirements for UW Primary Care Clinical Lab Technician -2, you will be sent an additional questionnaire asking for location preferences and to confirm your current or pending MA-P status with the Washington State Department of Health.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs pre-analytic procedures of specimen collection and processing. This includes but is not limited to interpreting provider test orders and monitoring for accuracy, prioritizing specimen handling based on type and clinical urgency, investigating, and documenting erroneous orders or other pre-analytic specimen problems, preparing specimens for transport, and data entry into the electronic medical record. Provides directions to patients for collection of non-blood specimens. Handles telephone inquiries for staff and providers.
  • Performs adult and pediatric phlebotomy by capillary and venous collection.
  • Performs routine and stat laboratory tests utilizing automated or semi-automated equipment and kit assays. This includes the ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot (may involve working with manufacturer's customer service personnel) the applicable equipment and testing methods, consulting with the CLT Lead as appropriate.
  • Evaluates test results and understands critical value limits for all tests assigned and reports immediately to appropriate medical staff.
  • Performs routine radiographic exams as directed by a clinic provider, limited to Level 1 and Level 2 exams as listed in the UWNC x-ray test menu. (Union SEIU 1199 NW UWMC NW Service & Maintance has approved a 9% pay increase July 1st, 2023; and a 3% increase July 1st, 2024 for UW Primary Care CLT-2's in this job code 21356.)
  • Other Duties as Requested
  • CLT-II REQUIREMENTS
    -Active Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist with the Washington State Department of Health; or eligible to become certified as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist with the Washington State Department of Health to perform venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood withdrawal within 90 days of hire.
    -High School/GED AND Minimum one-year relevant experience or training in a clinical laboratory or medical setting.
