Job Description

Supervises, instructs and evaluates food and nutrition employees, in the preparation and service of meals for the patients, hospital staff, students and visitors.

Supervises activities of work areas including kitchen, cafeterias, dishwashing room, and storeroom and cleaning procedures.

All employees must adhere to the following at all times

• Employee is expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times.
• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues.

Two patient identifiers are used. Food is secured, stored, produced and held in a safe manner following HACCP procedures.

Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and / or departmental policies and procedures.

If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.

• Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees. (For leaders only).
• Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.

Reports temperature variances on refrigerators and freezers. Rotates stock and discards out of date products. Observes employees for potential sources of infection.

Reviews employee occurrence reporting for trends and takes corrective / preventative action.

Minimum Qualifications

Education / experience / licensing :

• Minimum of three years food service management at a managerial or supervisory level required, with a preference for experience in Healthcare operations.
• Must have a working knowledge of computers, food service equipment, sanitation and products.
• SERVE Certification preferred. Training will be provided to obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Must maintain certification.

• Associate degree in Food Management, or equivalent education in general management studies preferred. Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
• Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

May require lifting to 50 pounds or pushing carts.

Communication and other skills

• Must be able to demonstrate customer service skills.
