University of the Pacific is Hiring a CVRC Research Attorney Near Stockton, CA

Primary Purpose:
The CVRC Research Attorney will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the California Victims Resource Center. The Research Attorney will perform a variety of complex professional legal work, including researching victims' rights law, organizing the CVRC research memo bank, and being the primary contact for technical assistance requests from victim service providers across California. The Research Attorney will review law clerk research and writing assignments and provide feedback. The Research Attorney will provide legal support related to the work of both the California Victims' Resource Center and the California Victims' Legal Resource Center. Up to twenty-five percent (25%) of the Research Attorney's time will be spent on case management and direct legal representation to victims of crime in Sacramento and surrounding Counties.
Essential Functions:
Oversee the statewide CVRC Technical Assistance Program, which provides victims rights research assistance to victim service providers across California.
Conduct research to locate court cases, statutes, regulations, or previous decisions relevant to victims rights issues.
Draft legal documents such as briefs and motions, researching facts, and work with the CVRC Director to develop strategies to further victims rights.
Review, organize, and update relevant laws, precedents, and other legal materials relating to victims rights to add to the CVRC Service Provider Portal on the 1800victims.org website.
Supervise student interns in the completion of research memoranda and other projects.
For up to twenty-five percent (25%) of Research Attorneys time, provide direct legal representation to VLRC Legal Center clients, including representation in court and complete case management.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited Law School.
Passed California Bar Exam and otherwise able to practice law in California.
Two (2) years of experience working with victims of crime or underserved communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience representing clients and using online case management system.
Ability to work with victims of all crimes in a culturally competent and trauma informed manner.
Strong public speaking skills and experience with presentations, workshops, and training programs.
Excellent oral and written communication.
Ability to clearly and simply communicate legal terms and procedures.
Strong team player; able to lead and educate those with less legal experience.
Detail oriented and able to multi-task.
Ability to manage caseload in a well-organized manner.
Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
