salary commensurate with experience up to $71,000Closing Date: Open Until FilledLocation: 4200 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008Brief Description of DutiesThe Information Literacy Instruction Librarian/Assistant Professor is a highly visible position that supports the mission of the university and division by leading in the development and maintenance of the division’s information literacy program. Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Learning Resources Division, the incumbent librarian will collaborate with academic faculty and librarians in planning and implementing a program for teaching and fostering information literacy skills relevant to the university curriculum, and for developing students' competence to discover, access, evaluate, and use electronic and print resources. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes primary responsibility for developing in-person and online information literacy instruction in collaboration with fellow librarians and teaching faculty, including developing common content, goals and objectives, expected outcomes, and teaching methodologies.
  • Coordinates the scheduling, planning, and delivery of information literacy instruction with university faculty and staff.
  • Develops print and online instructional materials.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule of offerings and develops and disseminates clear and up-to-date policies and procedures governing the information literacy instruction program.
  • Collaborates with Assessment Librarian on information literacy instruction assessment and implements actions for continuous program improvement.
  • Keeps current professionally by participating in relevant conferences, peer group meetings, etc., and conducts ongoing professional development activities for colleagues and staff.
  • Disseminates information on information literacy, scholarly communication, plagiarism, copyright, and related trends to the university community.
  • Teaches information literacy instruction sessions.
  • Performs reference (in-person and virtual) and other related duties.
  • Works with relevant faculty and staff on additional library projects as needed.
  • Serves as a representative on relevant Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) committees.
  • Serves on university and/or departmental committees as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

● ALA-accredited Master's degree in Information or Library Science.

● Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.

● Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.

● Evidence of professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion strongly preferred.

● Experience developing digital tutorials and video preferred.

● Experience teaching and coordinating information literacy activities at an academic institution preferred.

● Demonstrated evidence of involvement in professional research activities preferred.

A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:

a) An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and;
b) At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.
 
Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience in the discipline is limited or absent. When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment. 

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
