Hiring Department

The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Education welcomes applications for the position of Supplemental Instruction & Peer Tutor.


Salary Range

$20.00 an hour

Essential Functions

Project STREAM (Students’ Thoughtful Response to Educational Attainment and Mentorship) is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant. Project funding is for 5 years. The selected candidates will be offered a part-time position, renewable based on performance and the continuing needs of the project.
1. Provide guidance and support to students seeking assistance with K-12 teacher coursework and certification exams.
2. Schedule tutoring sessions and provide tutoring to individual students and student groups.
3. Provide assistance and customer service to students and staff.
4. Send and respond to emails as needed.
5. Maintain records of tutoring sessions, to include tracking and progress monitoring of students
6. Assist with preparing PowerPoint and other resources geared toward test preparation.
7. Assist with student test data collection and organization.
8. Collaborate with faculty and staff as needed to ensure student success.
9. Work with technology platforms/applications to be used in the Teacher Education Program.
10. Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

1. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
2. Applicants must have earned a B or higher in the course to which they wish to be assigned (or equivalent course).
3. Experience in tutoring/teaching students in a virtual and/or traditional environment.
4. Strong working knowledge of Word/Pages, Excel/Numbers, PowerPoint/Keynote, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Support for Teacher Residents with UTPB lesson plans, Pre-conference/Observation/Post-conference (POP cycles) and Student Perception Survey (SPS)
3. Demonstrated work history that meeting deadlines

Conditions of Employment

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
