The University of Texas Permian Basin's Information Technology Services Department welcomes applications for the position of Technical Service Engineer for the College of Engineering


Salary Range

$65,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

This individual needs to integrate into the College they are supporting and the Information Technology Services Department. The engineer must provide technical support and troubleshoot any I.T. related issues. Includes tasks such as Installing Software, maintaining Audio Video equipment, designing local area networks for various instruments, system diagnostics, and assisting colleges with instrumentation, simulation equipment, biomechanics, and other types of lab deployments and maintenance. The Engineer Helps in resolving technical issues within different components of equipment, computer systems, such as software, hardware, and other network-related IT related problems. The Technical service engineer should be highly skilled in fixing any technical problems, including network configuration, and take responsibility for all technical issues. The Engineer should have experience working with different operating systems (Windows, Linux or Mac OS), an extensive understanding of computer systems, networks, mobile devices, and other technological equipment, along with expertise in LAN/WAN, and knowledge of scripting languages (ie. PHP, PowerShell, VBS, Perl, Python or BASH), among others.

2. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of various Networking designs.
3. Participate in the Network development standards, process improvements, and technical documentation.
4. Adapt to changing business needs.
5. Demonstrate the ability to problem solve complex technical situations
6. Keep up with technological trends and industry standards to ensure all products exhibit excellence in robustness, availability, security, data integrity, and failure tolerance.
7. Plan and monitor project tasks, communicating project status to stakeholders, and ensuring timely completion of milestones.
8. Work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders to elicit requirements, identify functional and technical solutions, and investigate and resolve issues.
9. Communicate technical matters to users with varying experience levels.
10. Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
11. Have strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills with attention to detail.
12. Work effectively, to successfully meet deadlines, and to handle multiple activities and projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Two years of relevant experience.
3. Relevant education that is a proper substitute for the Two years' experience may be considered.
4. Relevant experience that is a proper substitute for the bachelor's degree may be considered.
5. Must have a car and valid driver's license. Travel between campuses is required.

Schedule

Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
