Hiring Department

The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Business welcomes applications for the position of Academic Advisor II


Salary Range

$45,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The Academic Advisor is responsible for participating in the planning and delivery of academic advising by individual or group advising on academic ,career-related issues, programs and curriculum. Should also help create and /or promote new initiatives that improve student success.
  • Provide academic advising to graduate students both individually and groups.
  • Provide students with information focused on meeting academic needs.
  • Determines nature of student's situation by responding to inquires: interviewing students ,auditing students records.
  • Provide timely information on degree requirements, university, Graduate School, and College of Business policies.
  • Monitors planned actions by follow up: receiving, processing and maintaining required documentation; maintain databases; provide reports; and analyze information.
  • Participate in new graduate student orientation programs, and various academic and student support events
  • Coordinates advising functions by serving as a liaison between student's faculty and College of Business and other campus services.
  • Serve as a liaison for UTPB’s Graduate School and College of Business by interpreting academic policies and procedures and curriculum issues.
  • Promote good will with students and work in a professional cooperative manner with faculty and staff across campus.

Required Qualifications

1.Bachelor's Degree
2.Strong Microsoft Office Skills including Microsoft Teams
3.Excellent interpersonal communication skills: strong verbal and written communication skills.
4.Dynamic presentation skills for individual and group audience.
5.Proficiency in handling multiple priorities and pivoting based on changing priorities, meeting deadlines, and problem solving.
6.Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Masters of Business Administration
2.Knowledge of PeopleSoft and EAB Navigate systems or any comparable advising technology.
3.One year experience with college students or related experience.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
