Job Summary
:

Reporting directly to the Mgr, Acct/Financial Reporting, the Financial Accountant I is responsible for monthly and annual responsibilities related to general ledger and financial reporting. Essential duties include analyzing and preparing timely and accurate reports in relation to cash management, accruals, amortization of prepaid invoices, interdepartmental transfers, appropriation revenue, and numerous general ledger account reconciliations as needed. Work is performed under general supervision in a team setting, with latitude for the use of initiative within departmental and policy guidelines.

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Prepares and posts general ledger and entries required for the Monthly and Annual Financial Report due to UT System and the Monthly Operating Report for UT Health East Texas.
  • Responsible for general ledger reconciliations required for financial reporting including State Appropriations, cash and bank statements, entries for UT Health East Texas North Campus clinical operations and UT Health Science Center at Tyler academic operations including interagency transactions with UT Tyler.
  • Process and post accounting entries as assigned, using data provided by other departments and existing PeopleSoft queries/templates
  • Analyze data and post journals for various monthly and annual accrual entries for revenue and expenses across all departments
  • Monitor various departments each month for invoices that need to be amortized, prepare and make general ledger entries
  • Maintain general ledger entries for Institutional Advancement and Endowments, including providing monthly reconciliations of payroll and other gifts journaled
  • Book monthly accounting entries for East Texas Quality Care Network including funds wired, balance adjustments and accrual of AP payments
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts as assigned including a variety of A/R accounts, payroll withholding accounts, and appropriation revenue accounts
  • Serve as back up to interact with banks, UTIMCO and UT system as needed
  • Prepare miscellaneous billing data for various contracts
  • Assist in upkeep of UTHSCT’s Trust Fund including monthly reconciliations, coordination with cashiers and social workers weekly, upkeep of balances worksheet and maintain records keeping
  • Monitor appropriation fund balances in USAS monthly, serve as back up correct batch issues and release batches as needed
  • Utilize PeopleSoft queries and nVision reports to accomplish monthly tasksand reconciliations
  • Assist in maintenance of chart-field tables, PeopleSoft queries and nVision reports used ongoing in financial reporting, general ledger, and budget needs
  • Supports preparation of monthly and annual financial schedules and reports to UT System via the FCRS system.
  • Other duties as assigned
