Salary
Salary Range: Up to $105,,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours per Week
Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
Function:
  • This management position within UTSA's University Technology Solutions (UTS) will oversee the management of all voice and data communications infrastructure and provide leadership and guidance to all Communications Infrastructure Services staff.
Duties
  • Provides leadership and oversee the specifications acquisition, development and implementation of emerging technology solutions for use by administrative, student services offices and faculty.
  • Provides for the training, direction and career development of assigned personnel.
  • Provides effective communication and sustain positive customer relationship with all offices and departments at UTSA.
  • Exercises independent judgment based on extensive technical or specialized knowledge and experience.
  • Delegates assignments and provides leadership and on the job supervision to assigned full-time and part-time personnel.
  • Ensures maximum effectiveness of all assigned work groups by maintaining a proper organizational structure. Recruiting, hiring, training, and promoting staff while identifying problem areas and quickly resolving those.
  • Develops and refines short term/long term plans, policies and procedures and communicates to the university community.
  • Participates in technology-related activities for the university, state and community.
  • Works closely with other UTS staff to advise and to provide direction regarding the delivery of IT services to the University.
  • Aligns plans to project goals and objectives.
  • Is kept informed of pertinent emerging technologies. Implements cost savings or containment recommendations. Invests money in projects, products, or services that solve business problems. Determines measurable goals.
  • Completes well thought out plans that are developed and followed for all major projects. Plans staff time and make assignments to staff to ensure most efficient use of staff time. Project requests are prioritized and assigned to staff in timely manner in order to meet desired completion date.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to all staff by opening avenues of communication, providing direction, clear goals, challenges, and opportunities. Mentors immediate staff.
  • Champions change in the organization with peers and staff and identify opportunities to help improve the strategy where appropriate.
  • Leads direct reports to adopt the principles and leadership traits that continually bring new ideas and opportunities to light.
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures within a campus network environment.
  • Consults on voice and data network design.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Technical experience may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis.
  • Six years work experience in core networking technologies including Routing, Switching, Wireless.
  • Five years work experience in network security technologies including Firewall, WAF, Remote Access VPN, Cloud Network Security & Network Access Control.
  • Four years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have ability to effectively manage personnel along with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage successful implementations of emerging technologies.
  • Experience with and a strong knowledge of Incident, Problem and Change management processes.
  • Personal computer and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
  • While performing the duties of this job, work is performed in an office environment with occasional work in a data processing environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 40 pounds.
This position will be primarily located:
On Campus: Primary work location will be on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
