University of Texas at Austin is Hiring an UTeach Assistant Professor of Practice (Non-Tenure Track) AY 24-25 Near Austin, TX

Description

The UTeach Program in the College of Natural Sciences invites applications for a professional track (non-tenure track) faculty position as Assistant Professor of Practice to start in August 2024 for the Fall semester.

within the UTeach STEM teacher preparation program prepares future elementary teachers to teach science with Hands-on-Science, a four-course integrated science sequence featuring inquiry-based instruction. Primary duties for this position will be teaching sections of Hands-on-Science courses to undergraduates pursuing elementary teaching certification. Additional assignments may also involve teaching or participation in other UTeach program courses. This could include teaching and/or supervising undergraduate and graduate students in field-based courses, student mentoring, assisting with local school initiatives, participation in preparing and presenting teacher professional development, and other programmatically related tasks.

This professional track position consists of a nine-month instructional appointment each academic year. An additional appointment in the summer may be possible but is not guaranteed. The position is renewable on an annual basis depending on job performance.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in science or science education (preferred) or master's degree in science or science education, have an interest in science preparation of elementary school teachers, have expertise in appropriate use of instructional technology and interactive teaching methods, and have an in-depth knowledge of the subject area. 5 years or more of elementary or secondary teaching experience and certification is preferred. Preferred content area for this position is Geology.

Candidates should provide evidence of instructional excellence, have excellent communication skills, and a student-centered approach to teaching that reflects our commitments to ensuring the success of all students.
