This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Initial assignment will end November 30, 2024. Subsequent renewal of employment will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.
The candidate selected will be expected to perform duties independently and successfully following training. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn and grow into the position. Opportunities for career development are provided.
Purpose
The candidate will work on a project and may be asked to support additional projects to study glial mechanisms in neural development, neurological disorders, and injury in the laboratory of Dr. Husniye Kantarci for the Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities
Management of mouse colonies and genotyping (mice).
Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. Experiments include: performing preparation of primary cultures of neurons and glia from rodents (rats and mice); performing tissue collection from rodents, cryosectioning, performing RNAscope or immunohistochemistry; performing confocal analysis of tissues, image analysis, and quantification of the results; performing live cell imaging (calcium or voltage imaging); performing tissue collection and cell preparation for single-cell RNAseq experiments and data analysis.
Assist with writing and submitting animal surgery, post-operational care, behavioral experiment protocols, biosafety protocols, and standard operating procedures for chemicals and biohazards.
Help ordering supplies and chemicals for experiments, ensuring timely arrival and organization of supplies. Prepare stock and working solutions for lab reagents and tissue culture supplies. Help to maintain extreme organization and tidiness in the lab.
Help train undergraduate and graduate students in the lab.
Master's degree and two years of related experience, or bachelor's degree and four years of related experience.
Professional demeanor, good interpersonal skills.
Ability to contribute to a positive, supportive, and stimulating lab culture.
Enthusiasm for scientific discovery and for fostering a learning environment.
Experience in rodent husbandry, surgery, and tissue collection.
Cryosectioning
Experience in RNAscope, IHC, and other staining procedures.
Analysis and interpretation of image data
Dissections and primary cell culture
Preparation of hybridomas
Confocal Imaging
Cloning, plasmid preparation, PCR, RT-PCR
Analysis of omics data.
$42,228 depending on qualifications
