The Texas Child Study Center, a collaboration of Dell Children's Medical Center and the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is offering three full-time Pediatric Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship positions for the 2023-2024 training year. Applicants may apply to one of our three primary training concentrations. Clinical training activities will take place within hospital, specialty care, and community-based primary care clinics provided by the Psychology Service at Dell Children's Medical Center. Training and education for community stakeholders around mental health topics are delivered via webinars and in-person training around the community. Opportunities for state level presentations may also be available depending on the fellow's interest. All rotations will be 12-month placements.

About the Texas Child Study Center

The Texas Child Study Center was created in response to the need for pediatric mental health services and training for future mental health practitioners in the Austin area. The Center is a collaboration between Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and all psychologists are employees of the medical school. The Center resides directly on the main campus of Dell Children's Medical Center within a state of the art, newly designed clinical space. The Center provides evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and developmental disabilities, ranging from adjustment difficulties to more chronic conditions including major mental health diagnoses, mood, and developmental disorders. Providers collaborate with physicians at Dell Children's Medical Center to provide psychological support to children coping with acute and chronic medical conditions. Patients seen at the Center come from all socioeconomic strata and ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Dell Children's Medical Center (DCMC) is located in Austin, Texas and it is the only freestanding pediatric facility in the region. DCMC is a member of Seton/Ascension Family of Hospitals, has 176 beds, and serves a 46-county area. The hospital earned the world's first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Healthcare (LEED-HC) platinum designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. Purpose

Community and School Mental Health This postdoctoral fellowship concentration in Community and School Mental Health is composed of two statewide initiatives as part of the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium: the Child Psychiatry Access Network and Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine program. The goal of both programs is to improve access to child and adolescent mental health services in Central Texas through preventative efforts,assessment and brief intervention via telehealth in collaboration with schools, as well as provide consultation within primary care and school settings to promote mental health wellness. Urgent assessments are conducted in partnership with the school and caregivers as part of the school-based program to support youth experiencing high levels of distress.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in conducting diagnostic and urgent assessments, intervention and brief stabilization, as well as school consultations as part of the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine program. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (psychiatrist, care coordinator, LCSW) as well as with the school staff is an important aspect of the care model.

  • Learn to apply short term evidence-based practices for children and adolescents experiencing a mental health concern. Opportunities for long term care are available with specialty areas of focus.

  • Involvement in community mental health prevention efforts such as supporting the implementation of the Family Intervention for Suicide Prevention and school programming of Youth Awareness of Mental Health.

  • Receive supervision based on a developmental and behavioral skills training model while also having opportunities to provide supervision to psychology interns and social work interns within a vertical supervision model.

  • Participate in presentations for research conferences and manuscript preparation.

  • Dedicate a portion of Training and Professional Development time to EPPP study and test preparation and scholarly development activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

To be eligible, applicants must have completed (or be scheduled to complete) an APA-Accredited Doctoral Internship in Psychology. Applicants are expected to have completed all doctoral requirements, with confirmation of dissertation completion and degree conferral prior to the start of the fellowship start date.Must have received Ph.D. within the last three (3) years.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
