Description

Purpose

The Dell Medical School at University of Texas at Austin in partnership with Ascension Texas, is seeking an Intensivist to be a part of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. This physician will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to serve the growing need of the regional adult population in Central Texas to deliver world class post-operative adult cardiovascular and thoracic intensive care.

About the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care

The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care comprises faculty in broad specialties (anesthesiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and urology) with a focus on delivering outstanding care to the community.

The Department's priorities are:

  • To develop new models of person-centered, multidisciplinary care that reward value.
  • To educate and train future healthcare leaders.
  • To develop research programs to evaluate new care delivery paradigms.

Essential Functions

  • Provision of expert medical care to patients in the CTICU.
  • Collaboration with the critical care team responsible for patient care.
  • Function as part of a multidisciplinary peri-operative team.
  • Medical student, resident, and advanced practitioner education.
  • Participation in scholarly activity which may include clinical, health services, translational or basic science research.
  • Actively participate in the academic department by all required departmental policies.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
  • Meets applicable credentialing and privileging standards in specialist (medicine, surgery, anesthesia). Board certification or board eligible in critical care medicine within two (2) years of completion of training.
  • Completion of a fellowship in critical care medicine at an accredited institution
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or the ability to obtain prior to appointment).
  • Proven experience in managing complex cardiovascular cases in an ICU setting.
  • Exceptional clinical skills and proficiency in critical care procedures.
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
  • Passionate about teaching at the bedside and in the classroom
  • Fosters a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and empathy in the ICU
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Eligible for appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.
