The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Integrated Media for Live Performance. We seek visionary applicants who can create innovative curriculum and lead a nationally recognized MFA program in integrated media, engage a dynamic graduate and undergraduate population, and sustain a trajectory of research and creative work consistent with the expectations of a flagship, tier-one, research university. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX.
The Integrated Media for Live Performance program encompasses scenic projection, multimedia performance, interactive dance, immersive installations, and architectural three-dimensional mapping. The ideal candidate will have an interest in culturally responsive, interdisciplinary mentorship that fosters excellence in students from varied backgrounds and participating in transdisciplinary conversations rooted in community and society.
The successful candidate will join a cohort of faculty in the UT Live Design and Production Area crossing boundaries of design, fabrication, and technology to also focus on new work in all areas of performance. Students have opportunities for creating work within their chosen disciplines as well as collaborating across disciplines, foregrounding experimental and new work. Past student projects have included installations, immersive experiences, virtual reality, and designs for the stage. This faculty member will advise integrated media students' work on departmental productions and advocate for their needs.
The Department of Theatre and Dance's faculty members and students come from many different backgrounds. As an integral part of the thriving creative culture of Austin, Texas, the department offers an array of programs to prepare artists, scholars, and teachers to make profound contributions to theatre and dance through engaging study and exceptional performance experiences. The department has 35 full-time faculty members and 18 full-time staff members and is housed in well-equipped facilities, which include black box, proscenium, lab theatres, teaching and practice spaces, and state-of-the-art design and computing labs. The department produces six large scale and numerous small productions per year including, biennially, the largest student-driven New Works Festival in the country. The University of Texas at Austin is situated in Austin, Texas, a city known for its quality of life and active engagement in the arts. The University is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
Minimum salary: $80,000. Start Date: August 2024.
