This position is grant funded and contingent upon continued funding

and satisfactory performance.

The Extension Program Assistant is responsible to the County Director and the Assistant Dean for the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) and works under programmatic direction of the project Principal Investigator / Associate Professor for Community Health and the County Extension FCS agent.

This position is responsible for providing support to 'Health Extension for Diabetes' grant activities aimed to use evidence-based approaches to diabetes self-management education.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform duties for staff and clientele that meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status.
  • Coordinate team meetings, maintain communication with team members, track and monitor progress.
  • Complete any required training for this county program assistant position.
  • Assist with the 'Health Extension for Diabetes' grant activities throughout the county.
  • Work cooperatively with all county Extension staff for the implementation of the grant activities, including working with partners, teaching communities, and training level I / II program assistants.
  • Offer educational sessions at community locations such as senior centers. Plan and prepare for the educational sessions.
  • Assist in promoting grant activities to local organizations and community sites.
  • Assist the FCS Extension agent in planning monthly programs related to the grant and provide leadership to County clientele.

Classroom decisions pertaining to minor student disciplinary action and monthly program development.

  • Assist in collecting, recording, and reporting required information and evaluation processes of the grant.
  • Communicate HOP activities progress to the Program Manager and participate in gathering information for reporting and evaluating the project.
  • Assist with maintaining current inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with program member enrollment and reports, as well as prepare monthly program materials.
  • Collect and provide information / documentation for evaluation of impact regarding the program back to the department.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Extension Agent / County Director related to the grant.

Qualifications

Minimum / Required Qualifications :

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Relevant knowledge to maintain the program’s vision of improving diabetes self-management education.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create curriculum.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to make public presentations.
  • Ability to travel across the county.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications :

Preference will be given to those with more than 5 years of related experience and teaching experience, and 2 or more years of supervisory and training experience.
