Description

The Office of Student Conduct and Care at the University of Tennessee at Martin is seeking a Coordinator of Student Conduct and Care.

Located in Martin, Tennessee, the coordinator reports to the Director of Student Conduct and Care. The Office of Student Conduct and Care addresses conduct and care related issues and is the home of the UTM Care Team.

We are committed to serving the community by aiding students who encounter barriers that may limit their success. The coordinator position will be a vital part of the office's mission with a primary function of providing non-clinical case management for students of concern identified through referrals from faculty, staff, student, and community members.

As a secondary role, the coordinator will meet with students to hear low-level student conduct cases using a compassionate developmental approach.

The coordinator will aid students in navigating university administrative processes, provide referrals to appropriate community and campus resources, aid in crisis response, and function as an advocate for students needs on the Martin campus and our five regional center locations at Parsons, Jackson, Ripley, Selmer, and Somerville.

This position will provide training, outreach, and programming to further the culture of care at UT Martin and help further a campus environment focused on safety and holistic student well-being.

The Coordinator may direct the work of an administrative assistant, graduate, intern, or student staff.

Job Duties

  • Serves the UT Martin Campus and five center locations as a Coordinator for Student Conduct and Care with a primary function of outreach and support for students as a non-clinical case manager and a secondary role of a student conduct hearing officer for minor conduct cases.
  • Serves as a point-of-contact in triaging students to support services, including initiating welfare checks with the Department of Public Safety, referrals to Student Health and Counseling Services, connections with Student Success, and other campus and community resources.
  • Ensures continuity of care by coordinating and performing follow-ups on referrals to internal units such as Student Success, Student Health and Counseling, Student Conduct, CARE Team, Residence Life, and other university offices.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members and designs and implements individual action plans for identified students using evidence-based practices.
  • Performs Care Team outreach, initiates programming, and provides training to campus community members.
  • Serves on the UTM Care Team and is a member of the Student Affairs Response Team (SART) including on-call rotation which may involve hospital visits and acting as the university liaison between student, faculty, parents / guardians, the hospital, and crisis staff.
  • Maintains records for Care and Conduct cases, including NABITA risk ratings, case notes, plans of care, conduct outcomes, and follow-up documentation.

Initiates cases, maintains case files, and updates documentation / information regarding cases and inquiries into respective databases.

  • Prepare the agenda and case management records for review for each Care Team meeting.
  • Works with each Center Director to establish and maintain Care Team support and programming for center students including outreach visits.
  • Compiles and maintains a directory of community resources for UT Martin and Center locations and develops ongoing referral relationships with community partners.
  • Establishes and implements methods to evaluate the effectiveness / success of the program. Compiles statistical data and prepares reports for program operations, activities, and progress, as requested.
  • Seeks out and aids in applying for and managing grant funding to support student programming.
  • Serves on Department, Division, and University program initiatives and committees.

Qualifications

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience working in a higher education setting, community mental health organization, or K -12 school system as a counselor, social worker, case manager, or student conduct staff.

Graduate Assistantship, Internship, or Practicum experience may be considered if relevant.

  • Initiative-taking and works well in a high-volume, demanding environment requiring careful time management and the ability to triage and manage multiple tasks on multiple timelines.
  • Possess the ability to remain calm and neutral under stressful situations and has excellent judgment in managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, motivational interviewing, restorative justice, case analysis, and the ability to assess and negotiate complex situations.
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate the resolution of difficult challenges.
  • Ability to write concise, logical, analytical reports to convey complex issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by compassionate and empathetic listening and sensitivity to individual student needs with a commitment to promoting inclusion and belonging through working with diverse constituencies, both domestic and international.
  • Applies student development theories when working with students.
  • Skilled in communication and relationship building as a part of a university community through establishing and maintaining professional and productive working relationships with faculty and staff at all levels, including collaborative efforts with local and state stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulations, including Title IX, the Clery Act, VAWA, and FERPA.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related field with three (3) or more years working in a higher education setting, community mental health organization, or K -12 school system as a counselor, social worker, case manager, or student conduct staff.
  • Experience working with individuals who may be in distress and managing complex issues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with multicultural populations and an awareness of issues affecting women, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
  • Superior leadership and management skills.
  • Experience presenting and providing training to both large and small audiences.
  • Possesses a familiarity with student conduct best practices and applies a social justice lens to interactions with students.
  • Experience managing cases using Maxient case management software and Banner.
