Assistant Director of VFL Films

General Description:

The position will serve as a content creator for Tennessee Athletics with an emphasis on Tennessee Women’s Basketball, as well as other sports and initiatives as assigned. The person hired will be responsible for collaborating with 151 Creative, Strategic Communications, Fan Experience and the creative team on innovative ideas to help build the Tennessee brand. Teamwork, Communication, Cinematography and editing will be critical skills for this position. This person will need to be flexible regarding the work schedule. Night, weekend, and holiday work will happen often. Travel will also be required. This person must have a high level of creativity and execution. Communicate across the creative team to ensure open lines of communication on content available & content locations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Brand Enhancement

  • Enhance the brand of Tennessee Women’s Basketball in-venue entertainment, digital and social media content through the creation of in-venue, recruiting, digital and social media content.
  • Creatively build and promote the brand of Tennessee Athletics Women's Basketball (and other sports and initiatives as assigned) by telling stories of the student-athletes, the program, and staff through the utilization of various media and communication channels.

Cinematography

  • Establish plan for coverage of events, including pre-season photo/video shoots.
  • Shoot games, practices, and interviews for Tennessee Women's Basketball and other sports and initiatives as assigned.

Post Production/Editing

  • Compose fun & entertaining video pieces that target a younger audience.
  • Edit and produce videos quickly and efficiently using creative story-telling mechanisms.
  • Serve as the key editor and director for all Tennessee Women’s Basketball (and other sports and initiatives as assigned) video and media projects.

Media Management

  • Organize footage by labeling and copying files to master drives.
  • Communicate across the creative team to ensure open lines of communication on content availability & content locations.

Other Duties

  • Assist with other various Tennessee projects including, but not limited to, projects geared to enhancing the overall brand of Tennessee as well as post-season collaboration to help enhance all sports content.
  • Other duties as assigned by VFL Films, including events on nights & weekends, as well as select Vol Network projects.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required (or must be able to obtain Bachelor’s degree by time of hire).

Experience:

  • 1 year of relevant work experience (internships, GA, post-grad positions included) with collegiate sports program or a professional sports team is required.
  • 1-2 years experience as a videographer with a collegiate sports program or professional sports team is preferred.
  • 2 years of experience shooting live sporting events and sports editing is preferred.
  • Storyboarding and story-telling experience is preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of various camera types and formats is critical.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Must have a broad-based knowledge of video production - original content production.
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms, content for each platform & how best to tell stories/enhance brand per platform.
  • Must be skilled in sports videography and both short-form and medium length editing for sports.
  • Knowledge of any new product to enhance use of social media.
  • Must have the ability to work with others in a challenging, deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems without drop-off in content creation.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with team staff, co-workers & administrators.
