University of St Thomas is Hiring a Program Manager I Near St. Paul, MN

OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Program Manager I position within the Opus College of Business.

This is a position with high in-person student engagement that requires a regular presence in the office on our St. Paul campus, but after the training period is complete, remote work may be possible for 1-2 days per week.

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides planning, coordination, and management of co-curricular programming and activities for current Opus undergraduate business students, as well as recruiting, orientation, and onboarding events for prospective and incoming new business students. Manages program/student communication processes and tutoring services, and hires/trains/supervises the teams of student interns to deliver those services. Leads certain OCB student organizations, while providing support and guidance to other student-led clubs, all with a focus on building community and developing individual students’ leadership skills. All responsibilities and contributions are geared towards improving the Opus students’ overall experience, retention, and success during and after their studies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manage and advise Opus College of Business student organizations and co-curricular programming

  • Undergraduate Business Council (UBC)

The Undergraduate Business Council (UBC) serves as a representative organization to the undergraduate student body to enhance the Opus experience, foster the common good, and build a community that will transcend the classroom. UBC members voice concerns to administration, plan and execute engaging events and initiatives, and serve as a group of students from whom administration can receive feedback.

o Recruit, select, train, and develop a team of 12-14 student leaders to represent their peers in the Opus College.

o Meet biweekly with the council as well as the leadership team.

o Support the execution of council events and initiatives, providing advice, connections, guidance, and feedback.

o Coach UBC students to develop and execute a survey of all business students to gauge how we’re doing as a program based on student perception and help them put together a presentation to share the data with administration.

o Serve as the liaison between student leaders and administration.

  • Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program (BUMP)

BUMP is a year-long peer-to-peer mentorship program for undergraduate business students. BUMP Peer Mentors provide insight into navigating Opus College of Business, St. Thomas, and the larger business community. The program serves about 65 students annually.

o Recruit, select, train, and develop a team of about 5-6 student leaders to support management of the BUMP program. Members of the student leadership team also serve as peer mentors in the program.

o Meet weekly with the team and biweekly with the executive director.

o Support execution of approximately 12 evening events each year, including orientations, monthly required professional development events, and social events.

o Support recruitment and selection of mentors and mentees.

  • Damus Board

The Damus Board is a select group of students tasked with giving about $30,000 to non-profit organizations of their choice through a year-long professional development program and project.

o Co-advise the Board with the Opus College Director of Business Learning Through Service.

o Maintain relationship with the program funder, working closely with colleagues in Development. Partner to seek additional funding.

o Recruit, select, and onboard approx. 10 student members annually

o Plan and execute ten, three-hour meetings throughout the year, which includes booking space, catering, hosting speakers/panels, planning training and development opportunities, building relationships and communications with students.

  • Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma Sigma is a global honor society for business students at AACSB accredited business colleges. Students in the top 10% of their sophomore, junior, or senior class are invited to join each spring. Member students have opportunities to engage with the chapter, led by a team of student officers.

o Recruit, select, and train 2-3 student officers annually, and meet with them biweekly.

o Engage current members through communications and events.

o Manage the eligible member invitation process and plan and execute the annual induction ceremony for both undergraduate and graduate student inductees.

  • Student-led clubs

The Opus College recognizes select student-led clubs that tie into business education and development. This position is a liaison between Campus Life and student-led clubs within the business realm.

o Monitor the executive boards and activities of about 15 undergraduate student business clubs, provide leadership development and engagement opportunities for students, and facilitate interaction by providing guidance for student leaders and club faculty advisors.

Manage student communications and digital resources

  • Manage regular student communications

The undergraduate business program communicates with students via a weekly newsletter - the McNeely Memo, our internal OneStThomas pages, and through Instagram on @opus_undergrad. This position manages communications through each of these channels with the support of a student intern team.

  • Supervise digital marketing student interns

Hire, train, and supervise the digital marketing intern team of 3-4 students/semester, who execute the day-to-to management of the Instagram account and support email communications and OneStThomas.

  • Support emergency communications

Draft and send timely emails to all students in response to unexpected/crisis events in partnership with the associate dean.

Manage resource pages and documents on OneStThomas, as well as external websiteManage the creation and editing of our advising and registration resources, such as degree planning worksheets, suggested sequences, etc. for advisor and student use. Update internal OneStThomas informational and resource webpages. Partner with Marketing, Insights, and Communications team to update external webpages.

Manage Academic Support

  • Manage tutoring program and supervise student tutors

o Work closely with department chairs to develop policies, guidelines, and expectations for undergraduate business academic tutors.

o Recruit, hire, and train a team of approx. 8 peer tutors to support accounting, finance, and operations management core courses.

o Conduct mid-semester check-ins and performance evaluations.

o Review usage of tutoring services and ensure our offerings meet student needs.

o Collaborate with tutor leaders across campus to share resources, best practices, and tools.

Admissions and Orientation activities

  • Throughout the year, meet with prospective students in the absence of the senior director for undergraduate and accelerated master’s programs, as needed.
  • Support the planning and execution of our annual Business Scholarship Day, which includes selection of Fauth scholars, GHR Fellows, and Schulze Innovation Scholars.
  • Support summer orientation for incoming students, with student intern support, including coordination of the academic fair and preparing physical and virtual materials.
  • Supervise an undergraduate student intern over the summer and work closely with them to engage students during orientation. 

Additional program support and coordination as assigned

  • Interact with Opus College of Business faculty and network with Twin Cities business professionals and Opus College of Business alumni.
  • Provide academic status monitoring and event support for GHR Fellow and Schulze Scholar embedded cohort scholarship programs.
  • Collaborate with associate dean/sr. director to develop and implement programming and outreach for current and prospective business students.
  • Integrate DEI into all student organizations and resources, and support additional DEI events and initiatives, as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Three years of professional program management experience in higher education, student life, or the equivalent
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or eligible for legally required exemption such as a medical or religious reason

Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, business, education or related field
  • Knowledge of and experience with college student development
