Student Activities

The University of St. Thomas (www.stthom.edu), a private, Catholic university committed to a liberal arts education, as well as the religious and intellectual traditions of Catholic higher education, is seeking a Coordinator of Student Leadership & Engagement.

Purpose

The Coordinator of Student Leadership & Engagement position plays a significant role in the leadership development and engagement of our student leaders and campus, with an emphasis on supporting and developing our new incoming students and returning student body. The position reports to the Director of Student Leadership & Engagement and will actively contribute toward furthering our Student Affairs Board of Trustee charges to strengthen UST's (a) student success efforts and (b) Catholic mission and faith integration efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly responsible for the recruiting, training, and development of Student Activities Teams (e.g., Welcome Week Committee, Leadership Council, and Senior Week Team).

  • Supervise various Student Leadership Organizations (e.g., Campus Activities Board, Campus Community, Campus Initiatives, Registered Student Organizations, and/or Student Body President) and serves on other Student Activities committees, as needed.

  • Helps with the office management (work order, IT request, access to rooms, purchasing of supplies) for the Office of Student Activities, including participation in events and programs

  • Assist with the planning of Tradition Events (e.g., Christmas at the Mall, Family Weekend, Crawfish Boil, Senior Week, etc.) and student leadership activities (e.g., Centralized Leadership Process, Leadership Summit, Leadership Banquet, etc.).

  • Supports activities that affect first year students (e.g., Orientation, Welcome Week)

  • Partner with other stakeholders across campus to build a comprehensive student life experience.

  • Assess and interpret programs and services to increase effectiveness, as well as create new initiatives to better meet student needs and enhance student engagement and student leadership.

  • Reviews and stays current with university risk management policies and other procedures that affect student organizations.

  • Foster a community environment with opportunities for personal and academic growth and leadership development by operating from a student development framework.

  • Participate in professional development through the University, department in-service programs, student affairs committees, conference attendance, and involvement in professional associations.

  • Perform other delegated responsibilities assigned by the Director of Student Leadership & Engagement, and/or the Assistant Vice-President for Student Affairs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required; A master's degree in a related field is preferred (Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field).
  • A minimum of one year experience required; preference will be to candidates with prior experience working at a university or experience with supervising and developing student leaders.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with large scale programming background, a deep understanding of the Canva application, and experience in student leadership and development.
  • At least one year of professional experience working in a higher education setting preferably in student affairs, advising, admissions, student success, or other related Preference will be given to candidates with experience in university settings, Catholic student leadership, and event planning. Work experience should show demonstrated skills in leadership development, group dynamics, and programming.
  • Strong communication skills-oral and written.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple constituents.

This is a full-time, year-round, benefit-eligible This position requires significant evening work (2-3 times a week) and occasional weekends.
