Senior Contracts and Grants Officer Office of Research Los Angeles, California

The Department of Contracts and Grants (DCG) supports USC's investigators from proposal development to award closeout, ensuring that our grants and contracts are consistent with university standards for academic freedom, research ethics and fiscal responsibility. The Department of Contracts and Grants is seeking a Senior Contracts and Grants Officer (Contracts and Grants Administrator II) to join its team that mainly supports the Health Sciences Campus with a hybrid work schedule on the University Park Campus (Credit Union Building). The Senior Contract & Grant Officer interacts with faculty, University offices and external funding agencies to facilitate the exchange of information and provide services associated with pre and post-award administration of contracts and grants to assigned departments.

Job Accountabilities:

* Proposal/Pre-Award

  • Acts as the University's official representative to sponsoring agencies on proposals.
  • Reviews, approves and submits proposals to extramural sponsors on behalf of USC.
  • Advises on University policies, specific agency requirements and guidelines to assist faculty and their staff in the preparation and submission of proposals.
  • Coordinates any required additional documentation or response to sponsor questions required prior to award.

* Negotiation

  • Acts as the University's official representative to sponsoring agencies on awards.
  • Follows through with agencies for award and funding.
  • Negotiates awards and coordinates award documents for setup and modifications.
  • Seeks and coordinates exceptional approvals for non-standard award terms.
  • Ensures all negotiation correspondence is filed and approvals documented.
  • Requests Award set-up for awards and modifications.

* Post- Award

  • Provides a range of post-award administrative support including interpretation of legal terms, confirmation of prior approval requirements, and coordination of sponsor requests.
  • Coordinates the submission of notices and prior approval requests to sponsors.
  • Coordinates with central support units to ensure compliance with management and reporting, audits, legal, insurance, regulatory and other statutory requirements.

* Other

  • Develops and maintains positive sponsor relationships.
  • Ensures institutional compliance with Federal and State regulations, sponsor policy and University policy.
  • Keeps careful and detailed files as the University's office of records.
  • Participate with other officers and with their team in developing tools and providing input to improve processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Education:

- Related Undergraduate Study

- Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

- 2 years, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree 3 years of Contracts and Grants Administration experience - - Knowledge of University policies and procedures Demonstrated negotiation skills

The annual base salary range for this position is $81,378.83- $86,368.56. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
