USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Los Angeles, California

Tenured or Tenure-Track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

We are seeking a faculty member with a strong program in auditory and/or vestibular research, with a particular focus on central or peripheral sensory system development and/or regeneration. Candidates utilizing cutting-edge quantitative molecular biology approaches, including single-cell multiomics, proteomics, or gene editing, are particularly encouraged to apply. Research can be basic or translational and can utilize a variety of model systems (e.g., organoids, non-mammalian animal models). The primary criterion for appointment in any tenured or tenure-track position is a candidate's demonstrated commitment to research and teaching. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A PhD or MD degree is required.

Candidates should have a track record of impactful research as demonstrated by publication and funding history. Candidates must be committed to being an active member of a vibrant and collaborative department and be capable of interacting productively with colleagues of different backgrounds and interests, including graduate students, post-docs, residents, other research PIs, and clinicians. In addition, the position will involve the education of trainees and, for more senior appointments, the mentorship of junior faculty. Opportunities for collaboration with other USC faculty abound, including those in the adjacent Broad CIRM Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Faculty in the department are affiliated with and can recruit trainees from outstanding training programs, including the USC Programs in Biomedical and Biochemical Sciences (PIBBS) and multiple NIH T32-funded training programs, including the Neurosciences Graduate Program (NGP), the Hearing and Communication Neuroscience Program (HCN), and the Otolaryngology Clinician-Scientist Training Program (CSTP). These training programs support graduate students, post-docs, and medical students/residents with a strong interest in research.

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As member of the USC family, the successful candidate will join a world-class research university located in one of the world's most diverse and dynamic cities.

The University of Southern California strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment. All genders, and members of all racial and ethnic groups, people with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit [1] a brief (1 page) cover letter, including the names and contact information for three references who have been asked to provide letters, [2] a current CV, [3] a Mentoring/Teaching Statement that conveys your major teaching interests and accomplishments and discusses your personal philosophy regarding mentorship and teaching (no more than two pages), [4] a Personal Statement detailing your key research contributions and future research plans (no more than five pages), and [5] a brief statement (<300 words) outlining how you aim to advance the Keck School of Medicine's mission in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Statements should discuss both your past contributions to inclusive excellence in the areas of service, teaching, or research activity and your future commitments and goals related to the USC appointment. Statements of all types are most useful when they include specific examples of your activities or plans. Submissions will be reviewed as received.

The annual base salary range for this position is $90,000-$221,539. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
