ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Office of Internal Audit (IA) performs financial, compliance, operational, and IT audits, as well as special investigations and consulting projects, in accordance with professional standards. IA is a cutting-edge internal audit shop that is well suited for life-long learners who are comfortable addressing a wide variety of subjects in a dynamic and meaningful environment. IA reports functionally to the USF Board of Trustees Audit and Compliance Committee and the USF President.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Internal Audit Consultant position performs routine audits, internal control reviews, and consulting projects for the USF System in accordance with professional standards. Verifies appropriate controls exist, processes are efficient and effective, and operating procedures are in compliance with laws, regulations, USF System policies, procedures and best practices. Assists Senior Internal Audit Consultants and Assistant Directors with components of more complex projects. Responsible for ensuring that assignments are completed efficiently and effectively.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs audit field work: Participates as a team member on operational and financial audits, internal control reviews and consulting projects. Evaluates the effectiveness of departmental accounting structures, business systems, and internal controls used for managing revenue and expense transactions as well as operational processes. Performs internal control and risk assessments within area assigned following professional standards and communicates results to management verbally or in writing. Prepares effective work papers to support work performed and conclusions reached. Assists with reports, as appropriate, but does not have primary responsibility for report writing, Assists with follow-up of previously reported issues to assess resolution of recommendations, Researches, reviews and interprets University and other standards and applies these standards to University Operations.
Performs basic data analysis on data sets provided in accordance with work plan objectives provided.
Promotes positive working relationships by participating on university committees/advisory groups, responding to management inquiries, and attending training and education programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Master's degree in accounting or other appropriate area of specialization; or a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution or a Bachelor's degree in Business from an accredited institution and 1 year of internal audit or equivalent experience.
PREFERRED:
Master's Degree, Active CPA or CIA license or other relevant equivalent certification.
