Performs electrical building modifications to comply with customers' needs and NEC code regulations including but not limited to building, lighting, power circuits, fire alarm and emergency systems by receiving project work orders and other documentation; completing actual hands on physical work; ensuring that all work performed follows the departmental and OSHA safety guidelines, policies and regulations; and ensuring that systems are in safe working order while exhibiting a professional demeanor including conduct, appearance and work practices.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma and 4 years electrical experience.

SC Journeyman electrical license required.

Driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge and experience in the fabrication and installation of materials and equipment required by electrical distribution systems and knowledge of national and local code requirements. Ability to work within established resources, communicate in writing and orally to management, and maintain accurate records relating to time, materials and services provided. The ability to operate computer systems is essential. Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize work. Must become familiar/proficient in use of Microsoft Windows, Office and FAMIS and other programs developed to manage work orders and receive campus e-mail.

Coordinates the installation of new and modified systems including but not limited to reading blueprints, schematics or drawings; consulting with customers, University Project Managers, contractors and sub-contractors to approve new construction plans based on USC standards and to provide information on existing electrical systems that may be affected during a project and advice on requirements for future construction projects; reviewing construction areas for electrical requirements; communication of expected installation or modification work with electrical personnel; trouble shooting new or newly modified systems to assure proper functioning; and occasionally estimating costs for project work based on length, scope, manpower and equipment requirements.

As an electrical journeyman or master electrician, leads helper electrical crew personnel on speci?c projects when necessary that are responsible for the performance of electrical building modi?cations by following through with supervisor instructions; assigning speci?c duties to employees; reviewing employee work performance and holding them accountable to satisfactory workmanship; monitoring labor hours and materials expended; ensuring work tasks are performed in a safe, productive and cost effective manner; providing direction, leadership, motivation and on the job training; and ensuring the accurate submission of daily time sheets and records on all tasks performed.

Assessing the project requirements by physically inspecting project site; calculating the electrical loads; reviewing the space needs; electrical blueprint accuracy; communicating inaccuracies and other project information with supervisory and project management personnel; determining the most time/cost effective solutions and problem solving assigned construction electrical issues.

Performs administrative tasks including assisting with the Facilities inventory control by monitoring, ordering, receiving and verifying supplies, materials and tools from Consolidated Supplies and outside vendors following established procurement policies and procedures; attending meetings and training events and providing information for management review and reporting.
