This position allocates the employee to supervise student workers in athletic training. Supervision of team medical needs during participation, athletic contests, and team travel as directed by the athletic director/associate athletic director; coordinates injury prevention and management, assists with the areas of concussion management, and sickle cell trait screening; operates a variety of athletic training room equipment, to include medical modalities; maintains a daily record of treatments, injuries, and protects medical documents.
Reports To: Athletic Director Sr. Associate Athletic Director
Supervises: Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer Student Workers for Sports Medicine
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: • Responsible to evaluate and approve work of graduate assistant athletic trainers, student workers, and undergraduate interns. • Responsible for training and supervision of graduate assistant athletic trainers, student assistant athletic trainers and in the sports medicine area • Assist with the development of sports medicine program for the University, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes. • Provide athletic training services for the University’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary. • Assist with the coordination and scheduling of preparticipation physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete. • Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs. • Administers a variety of advanced athletic training room rehabilitation. • Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program • Maintain daily records and documentation of injuries, treatments, and medical information of athletes. • Ability to work nights and weekends.
