Job Purpose:
The IT Client Services Technician is responsible for providing 2nd tier technical support for University owned client devices (PC, Mac, peripherals, phones, etc.) to all University customers. The position will troubleshoot problems (in person, by telephone, email or via remote assistance) in a timely and accurate manner. The position is responsible for configuring, installing, and maintaining University workstations and peripherals and installing software.
Essential Duties:
- Provide technical support by analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware, operating system, and application problems for all University desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals by accepting and responding to requests for 2nd tier technical support from Technology Support Services- Responsible for computer hardware and software services including setting up University owned devices, installing standard software applications, delivering, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware, software, and peripherals for faculty, staff and lab computers owned by the University.- Complete IT equipment moves as part of departmental and office moves- Follow established policies and procedures to assist users in maintaining data security; promptly report any breaches; assist the Information Security Office with the resolution of such breaches- Maintain Dell certified technician and Apple authorized repair center status; order necessary repair parts and diagnostic equipment- Maintain organized inventory of needed parts for University owned devices and peripherals- Maintain device hardware and software asset inventory records in IT Client Services asset tracking program- Organize recycling/disposal of computer equipment including PCs, Macs, Surface devices, monitors, printers, scanners ensuring data is securely wiped from all recycled/disposed devices- Assist with the evaluation of new hardware, software, and peripherals for implementation and keep current of technology trends on new hardware and software products- Maintain technical knowledge on current, new, and upcoming advances in university systems and technology
Additional Skills Required:
- Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.- Strong technical background and hands-on experience troubleshooting PC and Apple hardware and software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, email, calendar) as well as mobile devices, peripherals (printers, scanners, monitors, CD/DVD drives, etc.).- Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and customer service skills.- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and work within a high-pressure, team-oriented, collaborative environment.- Ability to work independently and multi-task.- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required.- Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture.- Must be able to respect, support, and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Associates degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)- Minimum two (2) years technical training in computer hardware repairs, software installation and peripherals- A certification (can be acquired in the first 6 months of employment)- Dell and Apple certifications must be acquired and kept up to date (can be acquired in the first 6 months of employment)
Preferred Education:
Bachelors degree preferred
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years in an Information Technology environment repairing PCs, Macintosh devices and other types of client computer equipment hardware as well as troubleshooting and installing software.
