Job Purpose:
The Director of Nursing Clinical Operations manages, directs, and coordinates all aspects of the clinical placement process for relevant Department of Nursing programs.
Essential Duties:
  • Negotiate, request, and confirm all clinical sites during open enrollment
  • Consult with Course Coordinators regarding clinical plans and options and specific student needs
  • Coordinate with clinical liaisons at sites to assure student compliance with requirements for clinical placements. Provide agencies with required information concerning each current clinical rotation.
  • Seek new clinical sites and learning opportunities for students to optimize the clinical education experience
  • Meet with clinical site Nurse Educators and Nurse Managers each semester for purposes of relationship management and site evaluation; Maintain ongoing communication to ensure that the needs of all stakeholders are being met
  • Compose and adjust all clinical calendars and schedules
  • Conduct adjunct orientations to clinical sites in collaboration with the Course Coordinators and assigned Nurse Educator for that facility
  • Support Course Coordinators in scheduling clinical makeup days for faculty and students
  • Ensure appropriate clinical placements for students; conduct evaluation of clinical sites each semester and present findings to department
  • Identify potential new or expanded healthcare partners for clinical placements
  • Communicate with clinical agencies and students as necessary
  • Coordinate and analyze the assessment of clinical sites, and disseminate findings to faculty and staff
  • Review affiliation agreements each semester and request new agreements, as needed, from Director of Field Placement
  • Provide State Board of Nursing with all current clinical site information and objectives; Review on a bi-annual basis
  • Assist the Chairperson in the development and modification of the master schedule for lab/clinical course sections based on enrollment and other considerations; Assist Chairperson in the adjunct faculty hiring process as needed to support clinical education-specific needs
  • Communicate with Department Chair, Undergraduate Program Director and Course Coordinators regarding student, adjunct or clinical site issues; Work to address issues as appropriate for role
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Program Director on hiring graduate assistants serving as instructors of record for clinical lab sections. Schedule and evaluate Graduate Assistants in this role.
  • Schedule, supervise and evaluate graduate assistants serving as instructors of record for clinical lab sections
  • Coordinate with Assistant Dean for Finance to support hiring of adjunct clinical instructors and payment of clinical fees
  • Collaborate with Chairperson and UG Program Director to develop and update policies and procedures relative to clinical placements.
  • Maintain records for assessment and accreditation as necessary
  • Plan and lead the annual Community Advisory meeting
  • Supervise Clinical Placement Coordinator, secretary assigned to Director of Clinical Placement/Director of Simulation
Additional Skills Required:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and managerial skills
  • Advanced knowledge of nursing practice settings

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, unencumbered nursing license in the State of Pennsylvania
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • Ten (10) years clinical nursing experience, with at least 5 years in hospital settings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a clinical placement role in higher education- Clinical experience in a varety of health care settings- Experience working in higher education or mentoring university nursing students in a clinical setting
Schedule/Work Hours:
M-F 8:30 AM-4:30 PM; Other days and times as necessary. Position is 11 months annually.
