University of Scranton is Hiring a Coordinator learning Near Scranton, PA

Job Purpose

The Coordinator of the Language Learning Center is responsible to meet the learning and teaching needs of students and faculty in ten modern and three classical languages.

Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating translation services, tutoring programs and other language related community services.

Essential Duties - Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Language Learning Center

conduct ESL placement testing throughout the year for immigrants, graduate students, and faculty as needed

  • Administer and grade oral proficiency testing in several languages in conjunction with target language faculty
  • Oversee International Graduate Teaching Assistants and international Fulbright Scholars
  • Oversee LLC staff in ESL methods by working with immigrants / graduate students and providing language tutoring services
  • Provide foreign language services to the University community as well as public and private agencies such as the LEAP program that assists college language students’ transition;

assist with student preparation for national oral testing

  • Provide vision for future technological innovation in terms of hardware, software, or other applications for language learning
  • Teach 1-2 courses per semester for the World Languages department as needed, prepare class lectures and grade student work
  • Promote the world languages department by updating the department’s social media platforms, creating the department newsletter, and managing the department website
  • Plan 6-8 cultural events each year in cooperation with FLTAs and visiting instructors

Additional Skills Required - Native or near-native fluency in both English and another modern language required

  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with current technology
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to coordinate language programs
  • Ability to effectively multi-task
  • Must be able to work with nontraditional students
  • Must be able to support the University’s commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University’s Catholic and Jesuit mission

Minimum Education Requirements - Master’s degree in Languages, Second Language Acquisition, or Applied Linguistics

Preferred Education Minimum Job Experience Requirements - Must have three (3) years of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications - Spanish fluency

  • Ability to teach subject teaching methods for undergraduate and graduate students is desired as well as ESL and ELL methods for teachers
