Job Purpose:
The Assistant Dean for Culture and Inclusion directs the Cultural Centers (Jane Kopas Women's Center & Multicultural Center) and engages in strategic efforts in support of the University's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and grounded in the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission. Through oversight of the Cultural Centers, the Assistant Dean supervises and directs the development and implementation of programs and initiatives for students that promote equity within a framework of intersectionality, social change, multiculturalism, and feminism. The Assistant Dean also collaborates with University partners to develop, improve, and maintain co-curricular programs, initiatives, and procedures to fulfill University objectives related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.
Essential Duties:
Direct management of the Multicultural Center and the Jane Kopas Womens Center, including staff, budget, assessment, and establishing and monitoring progress on promoting learning outcomes Provide oversight of anti-oppression, diversity and inclusion, equity, multiculturalism, anti-violence advocacy, bystander engagement, and healthy relationships programming and initiatives for students Supervise, assess, and develop two Assistant Directors and a Graduate Assistant Collaborate with University partners to compile and analyze diversity and inclusion data, and make data-informed recommendations in support of student success Work with University members, including faculty, staff, and administrators, to foster greater curricular and co-curricular collaboration in the areas of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice education, awareness, and advocacy Assist in the development and implementation of workshops and initiatives to promote students awareness, knowledge, and skills in the areas of multicultural competence, justice, equity, inclusion, and advocacy for and with marginalized and underserved communities Coordinate Safe Zone workshops for students, faculty, and staff and oversee other workshops about bystander engagement, salary negotiation, etc. Serve as a support person and advocate for historically underserved student populations Identify and implement departmental assessment initiatives through annual assessment planning, staff evaluations, program reviews, and divisional efforts Establish departmental mission, vision, goals, and student learning outcomes directed toward a positive inclusive campus climate for all members of The University of Scranton Assist students, faculty, staff, and local community members to find ways to engage in the work and mission of the Cultural Centers
Additional Skills Required:
  • Comprehension of feminist theories, critical race theory, multicultural competence, social change theory, and gender equity
- Understanding of issues related diversity, inclusion, and equity, and demonstrated commitment to advocacy on a college campus- Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating with faculty, staff, administrators, and students- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills- Strong presentation and facilitation skills- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team
  • Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Masters degree in Higher Education, College Student Affairs, Sociology, Womens and Gender Studies, or a closely related field
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory role with preference given for experience in higher education, student life, and programming related to social justice and anti-oppression
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to successfully plan, implement and assess equity, diversity, and inclusion programs for college students
Schedule/Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional hours as required.
