Job Purpose:
The Application Developer/Integrator will design and develop custom software solutions for the University's community of enterprise application/system users and support the integration of vendor-delivered applications into the enterprise application suite. This position will help guide Enterprise Application Services use of technology tools and architecture to keep the University at a competitive edge for the future, maintaining a key focus on Information Security.
Essential Duties:
  • Develops new and maintains existing applications and data reports for administrative and academic departments of the University in a variety of programming and scripting languages, adhering to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Procedure and Security Standards. These will be based upon detailed functional requirements for screen design, report design, and end-user interfaces provided by, or developed in conjunction with, Business Application Analysts and/or Enterprise Application Services manager
  • Builds applications for various platforms using .Net, Visual Studio. Oracle PL/SQL, Bootstrap and JavaScript.
  • Interprets business analyst specifications and writes PL/SQL packages and procedures to store, sort and retrieve data.
  • Assists with the integration of the Universitys enterprise systems and database with 3rd party software applications and SAS solutions with vendor APIs and extracts ; enhances the best practices and use of delivered vendor solutions and custom applications
  • Writes clean, scalable code using C# programming language
- Familiarity with the ASP .NET Framework, C#, Oracle SQL Developing and design/architectural tool (e.g. Model-View- Controller (MVC)
  • Builds and maintains interfaces between on-campus and/or hosted applications and assists in the analysis and implementation of hosted applications, particularly from a data integrity and security point of view; and to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network (e.g. Web services) in order to minimize ongoing Enterprise Application Services maintenance
  • Continually develops understanding of, and skills necessary to support and interact with the Universitys ERP system (to include enterprise database and servers), and its sanctioned report-writing tool(s)
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies, staying focused on the direction of current ERP system
  • Provides technical support and customization for 3rd party software applications being used by University customers, both hosted, and on-premise
  • Develops technical specifications based on functional specifications; develops efficient, secure, and reusable code
  • Works with other members of Enterprise Application Services, and when necessary, members of IT Client Services and Infrastructure Services to determine and provide necessary end-user authorizations, and to design secure file/table structures
  • Sets up logical design, analyzes data input/output flow, and conducts resource evaluation to optimize the processing time and data storage needs of software applications
  • Researches and develops solutions in code or data to help resolve software support issues
  • Performs technical testing on developed applications to ensure these applications meet technical specifications
  • Conducts application reviews with Business Application Analysts and/or Enterprise Application Services manager to verify that applications meet customers functional requirements
  • Produces technical documentation for all developed applications, both in-line commenting of code, and other written documentation, meeting the standards and policies of the Enterprise Application Services department, and ensuring other developers can maintain the developed applications if necessary
Additional Skills Required:
  • Must be proficient in service-oriented, object-oriented software development utilizing tools such as Java, JavaScript, PHP, Web APIs, and XML
  • Keen understanding of, and ability to maintain and manage applications written in PHP, C, Pro*C, and PL/SQL, running primarily in a Linux environment
  • Self-motivation and ability to quickly adapt to new software development environments and operating systems, and to keep skills current in new programming methodologies
  • Debugging, optimization tuning, trouble-shooting, and excellent problem-solving and problem-identifying skills
  • Ability to understand the effects of security breaches, and how to avoid them
  • Strong knowledge of system and software development methodology and best practices for quality assurance and data security
  • Ability to analyze, organize and report data/information for multiple audiences/purposes
  • Ability to lead investigation into application issues and products
  • Ability to produce and document a software design to realize functional requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritize, and execute tasks in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required
  • Knowledge of application/data privacy practices and laws (HIPAA and FERPA preferred)
  • Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture

Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree required preferably in Computer Science or closely-related discipline such as Computer Information Systems, Mathematics or Engineering
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
- Two years of experience in software application development using structured and Web-based coding languages, developing Rich Internet Applications and n-tier applications using Web-based presentation layers, and integrating web applications with server-based systems- Minimum of two years of experience writing software applications and reports based upon Oracle RDBMS and related database products/middleware- Experience evaluating and recommending software development tools for an organization, based on current and future business needs- Experience regarding optimization of applications for interactive, Web-based, cross-browser use, and mobile use
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner or Higher Education Product preferred
Schedule/Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Additional hours as required.
