Salary
$34,500 (plus excellent fringe package that includes pension plans; life, health, dental and vision insurance; and ample paid time off.)

Summary
Reporting to the Director of Communications & Marketing, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for the voice of the

University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma as the primary writer for communications including, but not limited to news releases,

publications, website, and other informational materials for internal and external audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ability to tell USAO’s story through human interest stories, news releases or photos/captions.

  • Manage the USAO news bureau, which includes digitally archiving news releases and news clips, and keeping media
contacts updated.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong and productive relationships with various media contacts and reporters.
  • Continually seek new methods to publicize USAO, its employees and students.
  • Provide needed support to the President and other administrators, including but not limited to speech writing, photography
and assisting with special events.
  • Write copy for other materials including publications, promotional emails, radio PSA’s and videos.
  • Proof all communication pieces released for mass distribution (print and electronic).
  • Oversee the timely distribution of newsworthy items to the public and post on USAO’s website.
  • Develop and design monthly external e-newsletter and other internal communication pieces.
  • Assist with crisis communications.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualification
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Desired Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and digital photography.
  • Excellent writing, editing and grammar skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Associate Press Style.
  • Good multitasking and organizational ability.
  • Ability to successfully communicate and interact with all campus populations including students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and maintain confidentiality on a wide spectrum of topics and issues for which discretion is
required.
  • Basic understanding of academia is a plus.

Education and Experience
Two years of experience and a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A degree in

English, Communications, Public Relations is desired.
