POSITION TITLE: Nursing Faculty - Undergraduate Program - Crown Point

DEPARTMENT: Nursing

POSITION STATUS: Full Time (9-months)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Designated Undergraduate Nursing Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the designated undergraduate nursing program director and Division Director/Chief Nursing Officer (DD/CNO), nursing faculty receive a contract or letter of appointment with a primary responsibility of teaching in undergraduate nursing. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings in coordination with established program and course objectives. Teaching loads can be spread across 9 to 12 months depending on the needs of the division.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities, see University Handbooks and Department Policy Manual. Faculty is expected to:

  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meet required contact hours
  • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review
  • Serve as Course Coordinator if applicable
  • Assist with evaluation of adjunct faculty members when serving as Course Coordinator
  • Effectively communicate with Track and Program Directors
  • Maintain effective communication both verbally, in writing, and electronically with students, faculty, clinical agencies, and health care professionals for use in program research, assessment of students’ performance, coordination of clinical educational experiences, and overall effectiveness of division
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly
  • Role model Franciscan Values
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession
  • Teach students using appropriate methodologies to facilitate student didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical learning experiences
  • Create an effective learning environment for students
  • Facilitate critical reflection in students
  • Inspire confidence and support innovation in students
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress
  • Evaluate student clinical, laboratory, and didactic performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance
  • Be assigned faculty workload to provide nursing course/division tutoring support for students when necessary
  • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical/laboratory evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress
  • Establish, monitor and evaluate clinical sites
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Faculty must have: (a) high speed internet access, (2) a device that is less than 3 years old, (3) up to date virus protection program, (4) no Spyware on devices used for courses, (5) up-to-date software programs.

Responsibilities may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Division Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master’s degree in nursing is required
  • Doctorate in nursing is preferred
  • Certification in specialty area is preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • A current Indiana RN license is required

Experience

  • Minimum of three years' experience in the discipline is required
  • Prior teaching experience in clinical or classroom setting is preferred

Requirements for all College of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction

  • Current TB testing
  • Current CPR certification
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization
  • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities

Knowledge and Skills

  • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education didactic, laboratory and clinical settings
  • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) is necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
