POSITION TITLE: Interdisciplinary Healthcare Success Coach

DEPARTMENT: Health Sciences

POSITION STATUS: FT (12 month)

POSITION REPORTS TO: AAS in Health Sciences Program Director

JOB SUMMARY: Interdisciplinary Healthcare Success Coach advises a consistent cohort of students throughout their collegiate careers from confirmation to graduation who are enrolled as AAS in Health Sciences students. The Interdisciplinary Healthcare Success Coach role extends beyond the traditional academic advising philosophy to incorporate a holistic approach to student success across a student’s collegiate career. The Success Coach is integrally connected to multiple areas of a student’s academic, personal, and future success by providing academic, career, and success coaching. Specifically, the Success Coach works with students as they explore a variety of opportunities in USF’s degree offerings as students navigate their personal and professional goals. In addition to advising and student advocacy, the Interdisciplinary Healthcare Track Program Success Coach participates in teaching, development and implementation of coaching strategies, and professional development opportunities. This is a non-ranked faculty position.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

60% Advising and Student Advocacy

Support assigned students with academic, career, and success coaching.

Academic Advising:

  • Proactively mentor students through the process of formulating a personalized academic plan, utilizing a variety of advising strategies, including one-to-one and group advising.
  • Provides robust communication, advising, course planning, and engagement during the onboarding process for incoming first-year students.
  • Works closely with faculty to support student success in and out of the classroom.
  • Coaches students on goal setting, academic success skills, and utilizing appropriate academic resources.
  • Assists students who do not meet progression requirements for healthcare fields through an integrated process to identify alternative educational outcomes at USF to further student retention and success.
  • Assist students in navigating university policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Monitor student progress towards graduation; extract, analyze, and report on student progress utilizing available databases and resources (e.g., Colleague, Canvas, Pharos360).

Career Coaching:

  • Mentor students on the career exploration process throughout their college careers by helping them discover and reflect on their personal skills, values, and interests.
  • Guides students through concentration choices and additional credentialing opportunities to achieve students’ career desired outcomes.
  • Support and empower students in their career making process.
  • Work alongside students to develop their professional identities, utilizing strategies such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, career-based tools (i.e., StrengthsFinder, Strong’s Interest Inventory, etc.), and job search skills.
  • Advise on appropriate academic and experiential preparatory activities based on student’s intended career or educational pathway in Health Sciences (e.g., certificate, professional or graduate school, career).
  • Assist students with appropriate academic and experiential activities (e.g., internships, experiential opportunities, etc.) based on the student’s career and educational pathways (e.g., certificates, further education, etc.).

Personal Development:

  • Support students in navigating the college transition process acting as a mentor and guide during the student’s first year.
  • Develop connection plans with students to engage in the broader campus community through student organizations, leadership opportunities, and community engagement.
  • Assist students in their identity formation regarding their values, identity, strengths, and passions.
  • Provide challenge and support for a student’s deeper sense of identity development, cultural awareness, and cultural humility.
  • Refer students to campus resources as needed.

30% Interdisciplinary Healthcare Program Coordination

In addition to teaching, the Interdisciplinary Healthcare Success Coach will contribute significantly to projects related to advising and career formation of AAS in Health Science students.

  • Teach select sections of FYS courses within the AAS in Health Sciences.
  • Works closely with the AAS in Health Services Program Director and Director of Career Development to create and develop curricular opportunities and pathways for further education (i.e., micro credentials, certificates, etc.).
  • Organize and manage course materials and assignments utilizing Canvas Learning Management System.
  • Collaborate with Director of Franciscan Core Curriculum to create and continuously improve curriculum and align with general education outcomes.

10% Professional Development and Campus Engagement

  • Actively participate in Student Success Engagement and Equity Team meetings and initiatives.
  • Serve on cross-departmental teams for selected initiatives to further student success and engagement (e.g., Student Care Team, Council for Integrated Advising, etc.).
  • Continue professional development and scholarly activity in academic advising to maintain knowledge of best practices and trends.
  • Serve on university-wide committees as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

Experience

  • Experience in higher education, student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, or similar field required.
  • Experience in advising undergraduates and/or mentoring preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to multi-task and provide exemplary customer service along with a professional demeanor and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement assigned responsibilities and to work well under pressure to meet established deadlines.
