University of Rochester is Hiring a Pediatric Genetics - Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Near Rochester, NY

Responsibilities

This APP position invites skilled and compassionate applicants motivated to learn about the field of metabolic genetics. As an Advanced Practice Provider in Pediatric Genetics, you will be pivotal in assessing, diagnosing, and providing comprehensive care to individuals and families with metabolic genetic disorders such as PKU, Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders, Fabry Disease, and several others. You will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of genetic counselors, physicians, dieticians, and nurses to offer exceptional medical care.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of adult and pediatric patients' medical histories and genetic risk factors.
  • Perform physical examinations and order appropriate tests
  • Management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism including those who may need enzyme replacement therapy. (Patients are primarily outpatient with some inpatient care involvement)
  • Monitor patients' ongoing metabolic health and provide necessary interventions and referrals.
  • Routine communication with The New York State Newborn Screening and external providers
  • Indirect patient care responsibilities include preclinical case reviews, prescription management, patient and parent phone calls, interacting with various state and home care agencies, and participating in weekly rounds and meetings for the metabolic service as well as Division meetings for Clinical Genetics.
  • Bedside and didactic education of medical students, residents, observers, and MS Genetic Counselling students.
  • Research opportunities available and encouraged for interested applicants

This position requires candidates with strong pediatric and adult clinical skills, the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team, excellent organizational abilities, and an enthusiasm to learn about this area of cutting-edge medicine and technology. Selection of candidates will also be based on proficiency in communication, sensitivity to patient needs, and some demonstration of basic science skills in undergraduate training, such as biochemistry and genetics. This job is performed during standard daytime hours, no weekend coverage required. Requirement: Current certification through NYS as an FNP/PA.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master's degree (or pending) as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active/pending New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Requires completion (or pending) of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active/pending New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71 - $67.07
