Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The technologist will be the point person for daily operations within the surgical pathology laboratory. Daily decisions are required regarding workload, providing customer service assistance to internal and external parties, handling immediate human resource issues, and meeting the needs of the department's anatomic pathologists and residents for diagnostic requests and research projects.
A good working knowledge of gross anatomy, histology and immunohistochemistry is desirable. Previous grossing experience is also desirable. Exceptional record keeping skills, and organizational abilities are required to document reagent testing and validity, parallel study analysis between methods, quality control and quality assurance records, documentation of technician training, preventative maintenance and workload activities. Candidate should have comprehensive knowledge of New York State, CAP, and JCAHO regulations and recommendations for a clinical lab. Assessing new techniques/procedures are expected to ensure quality and up-to-date service. Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to technicians, pathology residents and other department staff.
Work Hours:
Full time, Evenings, some rotating night/weekend on-call.
Supervision and Direction Received:
Receives administrative direction from the Surgical Pathology Chief Supervisor. Receives technical supervision from the Section Supervisor.
Supervision and Direction Exercised:
As the laboratory senior tech, directs the activities of the evening and overnight techs staff assigned to the Gross Room, Histology, and IHC lab.
Instrument and Equipment:
Microtomes, stainers, microscopes, chemical reagents and dyes, glassware, measuring, computer equipment and other equipment of similar scope and complexity.

Qualifications:
Requires a NYS License as a Medical Technologist AND four years of related experience. Experience in a histology laboratory is required.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $38.70 - $50.31 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
