Responsibilities
General Role:
The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) manages a number of different programs that support the academic excellence and success of those students who come from backgrounds that historically have been underrepresented in higher education, including students admitted through the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP),students who come from low-income families, first-generation college students, and students of color. The OMSA team provides comprehensive and proactive support for students' academic pursuits, career goals and co-curricular interests. Moreover, the office is viewed as a space that encourages authentic discussion and discourse, creates a family friendly environment, and serves as a strong voice of advocacy across the institution. The counselor will play a critical role in supporting our students and join a dynamic team of colleagues committed to the core values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. These values are realized through the development, implementation, and coordination of programs, events, and support services designed to aid in students' persistence to graduation.
The counselor is expected to provide comprehensive counseling, advising and support services to students. Directly assists with development and implementation of student-oriented programs specifically designed to promote retention and graduation of program students. (Some programming requires night and weekend work.) The counselor is expected to be especially sensitive to the needs of students from academically and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as underserved populations. The counselor reports directly to the associate director of OMSA.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 20.92 - $ 29.29 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined byconsidering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
