SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director position is an integral team member of the New Student Programs team within The Center for Student Involvement. The Assistant Director will work directly on the planning and implementation of the University's distinctive living-learning programs - Sophomore Scholars in Residence (SSIR), The Richmond Endeavor, and Themed Communities. The Assistant Director will work directly with faculty, staff, and students participating in these programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Management

• Directly advises and works with Sophomore Scholars in Residence (SSIR), Richmond Endeavor, and Themed Communities, by working with the faculty and staff to develop and implement experiential learning components
• Develops a series of programs throughout the academic year designed to address the developmental and psychosocial needs of program participants in the Sophomore Scholars in Residence (SSIR), The Richmond Endeavor, and Themed Communities
• Assist with pre-matriculation communications plan for incoming first-year and transfer students, in collaboration with Academic Advising and Office of Admission
• Help with the development of assessment and evaluation as it relates to office programs
• Collaborate and work with other office projects and initiatives where needed

Student Engagement

• Serves as the primary point of contact for students participating in Sophomore Scholars in Residence (SSIR), Richmond Endeavor, and Themed Community programs
• Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates Endeavor Navigators (student peer-mentors) within the Richmond Endeavor program throughout the academic year
• Leads, plans, and implements the student recruitment and selection processes for The Richmond Endeavor, Sophomore Scholars in Residence (SSIR), and Themed Communities
• Serve as an academic advisor to undeclared students until major declaration

Other responsibilities related to the Division of Student Development

• Serves as a WELL 100: Introduction to Collegiate Life instructor for one section per semester
• Serves on a variety of university and divisional committees, as determined by the Associate Director of New Student and Transition Programs or Director of Student Involvement
• Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of New Student and Transition Programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Student-centered approach to work and strong ability to work with historically underrepresented students
• Comprehensive knowledge of college student development theory, program assessment, and high-impact practices research
• Comprehensive knowledge in diversity, equity, and inclusion theories and applications
• High level of attention to detail
• Ability to apply theory, best practices and precedent to make decisions
• Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external community partners
• Collaborate, co-create, and build partnerships with faculty and key administrative offices
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Required:Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Education: Master's degree or equivalent in higher education administration, college student personnel, or counseling is required.
Experience: At least 1-3 years of experience in orientation or new student programs, living-learning programs, residence life, campus programming, academic advising, or student affairs is required.
WORK HOURS:

• Full-time, exempt position
• Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
• Working periodic evenings and on weekends is a requirement of the position, as well as domestic and international travel with student groups over break periods

SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring Range $46,114.00 to $61,110.00 annually)
