The University of Pittsburgh's Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) cultivates relationships with contributors, alumni, and other constituents on behalf of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, generating support for teaching, research, and care. See PAE's site for more details: pae.pitt.edu. PAE is seeking a Senior Associate Director to join a progressive team within the Office of Planned Giving, Schools and Centers. This position will be a vital contributor to the Planned Giving team with significant opportunities for future growth and relationship building with internal partners and leadership. The Senior Associate Director, Planned Giving will be expected to fundraise from current and prospective donors evaluated with the capacity to donate $100,000 or more in outright and/or planned gifts as well as build a diverse and sustainable portfolio. The Senior Associate Director, Planned Giving is responsible for the planning and implementation of a wide range of major and planned gift fundraising activities in their assigned region(s) to generate support from donors through cash gifts, testamentary bequests, charitable trusts, life-income gifts, and other gifts of a complex nature, such as gifts of real estate or closely-held securities. The incumbent will develop and deliver proposals and gift agreements to individual major and planned giving prospective donors outlining gift strategies and detailing programmatic information related to the donor's philanthropic interests as aligned with University goals and priorities. The incumbent must be willing to travel at least 30% of the time. Additionally, the Senior Associate Director, Planned Giving will also serve as a consultant to Schools & Centers gift officers to offer strategic subject matter expertise for major and planned gifts, and develop and deliver training to staff and volunteers. The Senior Associate Director, Planned Giving will also have responsibility for managing projects and strategic initiatives in one or more of the following areas, as well as serving as an active contributor to Planned Giving work related to: marketing, philanthropic education for staff, seminars for prospective donors, stewardship strategy and events, and administration of realized estate gifts.

Job Summary

Establishes and builds relationships with current and prospective planned gift donors to increase the organization's philanthropic resources. Manages estate administration, bequests, retirement plan gifts, life income gifts, and securities. Coordinates the stewardship funnel of planned giving donors as well as the efforts across planned giving staff, offices, and external audiences to correlate University goals with prospect interest and capabilities. Responds to all donor inquiries, administers gift annuities, and serves as primary contact with the planned giving administrator.

Essential Functions

Possess the following: strong analytical skills, strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, advanced computer skills, and strong persuasive communication skills (writing and oral). Will learn internal procedures, routinely update data in Salesforce, create reports, manage gift documentation, manage meetings, and travel regularly to donors.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
