The University of Pittsburgh Street Lab is looking for a Clinical Research Assistant. The research mission of the lab is the promotion and maintenance of independence of individuals with low vision conditions by understanding their needs, abilities in various domains, and exploring the use of current and new technologies. Housed in the Department of Ophthalmology in the School of Medicine, the Pittsburgh Street Lab is used by an interdisciplinary team of researchers and is designed and equipped to analyze the dynamics of human motion including gait and fine motor tasks.
Assists with designing, fabricating, and maintaining research instrumentation. Assists with the development of conceptual project design and instrumentation, software programs, and data collection methods.?Assists with conducting research. Conducts laboratory procedures, develops software for analysis, and implements robotic equipment protocols. Coordinates work of students and interns.
Essential FunctionsThe job will involve helping with human subjects recruitment/retention efforts and various testing protocols including balance assessments, eye-hand coordination tasks, gait, and navigation. The incumbent will assist with designing, fabricating, and maintaining research instrumentation, as well as contributing to the development of conceptual project design and instrumentation, software programs, and data collection methods. The job will also require communicating with investigators who may not be familiar with the facility's technical capabilities.
Physical EffortAbility to speak clearly in order to communicate with others. Must have manual dexterity to use keyboard and other lab and office equipment, and occasionally walk to various locations throughout the campus. Generally sedentary; however, may occasionally need to sit or stand for long periods of time. This position does require incumbent to occasionally visit other locations throughout the campus. May occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
